With May 2025 coming up, it will be twenty years since I landed at Ezeiza on a one way ticket and not having a clue what to expect. With that in mind, I've started writing an anecdotal and light hearted account of these years living in Argentina. It's been a bumpy ride, that's for sure (clue to working title) with endless encounters of both crazy and happy situations, with much of the material already in many drafts and even a 2007 published work that I can delve into.

Also, my Argentine graphic designer friend in Barcelona is already working on artwork for the cover and I intend to publish as eBook and paper book on Amazon/Kindle and other outlets, if I ever finish it. But of course, next May would be an ideal target.

Put me on the waiting list! Have you considered crow-funding, Splinter ?

I know that emerging musicians do it.

    Crowd funding for what purpose?

To fund the costs associated with writing and publishing a book (cover design, review, layout adjustment for printing and e-printing) and also to compensate your time spent to write the book.

In music, some artists launch a crowd funding campaign and "compensate" the participants with a new song of the new album every month. It is just a way to support independent art.

    According to AI:

Crowdfunding for books has become popular among authors and publishers for a few key reasons:

    1. Financial Support Before Production: Traditional publishing often requires authors to either secure an advance (if they have a publisher) or pay out of pocket for expenses such as editing, cover design, and printing (if they are self-publishing). Crowdfunding helps authors mitigate these upfront costs by raising funds in advance.
    2. Community Building and Engagement: Crowdfunding platforms allow authors to build a network of interested readers before the book is published. Supporters become early advocates, sharing the campaign and its story, which can lead to increased visibility and word-of-mouth promotion.
    3. Proof of Market Viability: A successful crowdfunding campaign provides a clear signal that there is tangible demand for a title. This can help authors negotiate with publishers or distributors because they’ve already demonstrated that people are willing to buy the book.
    4. Creative Control: Authors who crowdfund often maintain more control over the content, design, and overall creative direction of their work. Rather than adjusting the project based on a publisher’s marketing concerns, they can make decisions directly with the support of their backers.
    5. Direct Connection with Readers: Crowdfunding allows for a closer relationship between author and audience. Contributors to a campaign may receive exclusive rewards like signed copies or early drafts, which can foster a sense of shared ownership in the creative process.

Good luck and I wish you great success. My advice - find a good editor. Long form writing can be a tedious affair if you try to do your own editing.

Self - publishing with Amazon/Kindle is free of cost as it is with Draft2Digital . The only cost to me is book cover design which I have covered at a very reasonable price.

The most difficult and challenging aspect is marketing, for which I would be prepared to pay a small price. Publishing in Argentina however is a no go because the market is skewed and wrapped up and most certainly not free, even for an eBook.

    Many thanks!

I have a great editor who is also a personal friend and yes, writing is a long business, but certainly not tedious, for me anyway.

Agree, and wholeheartedly recommend it too.

I can honestly say that I’ve read it forwards and backwards.

Here's part one of a short story that I recently published as an eBook (for all ages).

    Me, Mandy and Wanda
On a very ordinary Friday in a very rough English market town pub, I bump into two extraordinary girls, which is how our adventure begins.

I will definitely buy that. I think I will save reading it for my flight!
