Coffee lovers all over the world are feeling the pinch.

Why Coffee Prices Are Soaring (Again) (Gift Article)
Wholesale coffee prices are trading near a 50-year high because of shortages related to extreme weather and increased global demand.

Thanks for reminding me I'll have to pop round to the Chino supermarket for instant coffee this morning as I've hardly any left. Chocolate is pretty expensive here as well.

I have cut down on coffee outside as it is outrageously expensive around here. An espresso is from 3000 pesos upwards, an americano 4000 (which is the same as an espresso plus hot water) and I don’t dare to check out the price of a flat white.

A friend runs a specialty coffee store three blocks from my house and keeps asking why he doesn’t see me around anymore. The truth is that I can’t bear myself to spend 8000 pesos on breakfast.
I suspect he knows, and he has been moaning that business is not good. He has his place since last year and it was not the greatest year to start a business. Regardless, I see plenty of new coffee shops popping up everywhere, and I see people going there. I don’t really understand. Perhaps they are all tourists from the US who still find it cheap?

When we're in the town centre and fancy a coffee we just go to the Spot cafe at the Axion petrol station. It's just half a block away from the MIL's house. Two cafe doble's and 2 medialunas each cost 7000. The coffee is every bit as good if not better than the well knwn cafes.

That's likely it. Those prices don't sound unreasonable to me. I don't frequent Starbucks and the like, but three or four USD seems like their range.

USA Starbucks in store 12oz brewed coffee, nothing special added is $2.50. People who talk about $3-4 coffee are talking about specialty “coffee” that has the extra ingredients plus some labor to prepare.

Amazon USA list many brands of roasted coffee beans, both specialty and major brands. Most are $20-30 per kg. Target, who using their huge presence, can force all the name brands to sell as low as possible is $25-35 /kg.

Argentina is $45-65 per kg when buying roasted beans in that bulk size.

For me, Starbucks is highly overpriced and overrated. I prefer the traditional Argentine cafeterías that have some atmosphere.

Yes certainty all the major brands and big chain coffee houses. At least the few small batch roasters tell you exactly where the variety of beans were sourced from. Either Boliva, Columbia, Brasil, Central America, including descriptions of the regions, so multiple sources from the same country all with different prices. What you expect when buying in other countries. Still no Africa or Vietnam beans. So the quality is better, and roasted only days or weeks earlier. But all expensive.

Atmospheric local places over sterile international chains, any day.
