I find this completely bizarre. A friend of ours in BsAs works in AI, and he warns that there is a dark side as well as the helpful tool it is usually seen as.

This is interesting. It seems that some things about AI are not yet mainstream. Just two days ago, I was looking at a video answering the question "Does being polite with AI helps?". And the answer was "yes" but it helps us be more clear in our question and hence in getting a better answer out of the machine. AI won't be offended if you are not polite.

I don't use courtesies with AI, and once I even got angry at it. AI apologized profusely and was so assertive that it seemed not mentally sane.

AI fatigue - it is real and it affects me.

During the last 3 months, I have experienced AI fatigue without knowing it had a name. It all began when I got listed in a government website as a service provider. I thought I had hit jackpot, but in turn it has become very challenging, stress-wise.

Let's clear the air and clarify that the financial advantage has not been life changing. Yes, I get more inquiries, but I can convert into client only very few, and for a rate lower than my usual. When you are on a list, who is looking for your services will mass-mail all the list and seek the cheapest option.

So, where does the fatigue lies? That I am getting emails that are AI generated.

There are a few telltales signs like no typos, no grammar mistakes, keywords highlighted in bold, foreign words in italics, bullet points, a standard structure:

    paragraph 1 - introduction

    paragraph 2 - body

paragraph 3 - body (bullet point list of requirements)

paragraph 4 - request (can contain a bullet point list of questions/details to confirm)

Sometimes, I have even received emails with emoji!

I am not happy to read 5 paragraphs when it could have been 2. However, what is really tiresome, is that the request bit is very redundant.

it always asks to confirm: whether I am a sworn translator or not (you found me in that very official list!!); if I am authorized by the XXXX government to provide translations from X to Spanish (again, you found me in that very official list where the accredited languages are listed!!!); to confirm whether my translations are accepted by X Spanish office (Consulate of XXX/Ministry of XXX, Universidad de..., depending on the user's query ---- OFC you MUST use someone from the Spain's list of sworn translators, where you found me.... take some magnesium, jeez!); price, turnaround time; if I have a digital signature (required for sworn translators to sign their translations - obviously, yes); if I can confirm that my digital signature is accepted (again!!); if eventually I can provide a hard copy (what answer would you expect? that I am against printing on paper, even if required for my job?); if I am sure that a digitally signed translation will be accepted (how do I know? In theory, yes - but I don't have a crystal ball and there are hundreds of offices where my translation may be presented).

Now, I have 10 questions to reply. If I don't, it undermines my credibility and it seems I am trying to dodge the questions. However, from my point of view, 95% are self-answering given they got my contact from the government-approved list.

I started writing angry replies... "thanks for your AI-generated mass-mail. I don't reply to those." and I started getting angry answers (at least those were not AI generated!)

I decided I have to find an angle to process this without blowing up my brain, as I don't want to piss off someone to the point where I am taken off the list for unprofessional behavior. But having to reply to the same useless questions all day is tiresome. I find it very frustrating also the fact that it takes me 10' to reply to an email, where the bottom line is the price and I have very low chances to get the job. But the client dedicated 10' to email 50 persons and will always win (will find the lowest quote).

Then I realized WHY I am getting AI generated email... because AI asked me if I wanted help writing to a list of sworn translators when I was using it to research on the topic of visas.

serafina , this situation is terrible! Please explain the part quoted above? I don’t get it.

I totally understand the part about people using AI to spew out inquiries to many people, thus requiring all to reply to each of these inquiries. They spend essentially no time, and you have to spend a lot of time, on these fishing expeditions that probably lead to no future clients. It must be absolutely maddening.

I asked AI how they would translate a certain term in Spanish for Spain (government offices are named differently depending on the country). And from there AI understood that I was likely doing a translation of an official document and offered to help me write to translators (competitors) for help.

This is when it clicked: the AI emails I am getting are from people who are asking AI for help to apply for a visa or in a university in Spain. AI provides guidance, AI offers to help them write an email to translators seeking for their service.
This is why I am getting many emails that sound more or less the same.

Ah! I see. AI provides assistance to seekers of help with these letters, but because the guidance is the same for all the people using this help, their letters are essentially the same. Resulting in a pain in the neck for the recipients.

    What can you do?

I have tried to fight fire with fire, i.e. to reply with AI, but I can't still find a way to embed it in Apple Mail. I have to access my email from Google and use one of the AI prompt. However, they are pretty basic and not tailored based on my information.

You might already have Outlook with a 365 or some Microsoft paid plan. With that you can enable their Ai email assistant. For safety just let it run on the side handling only these bothersome emails, while you continue doing email the way you always have.

They already have OpenClaw Ai assistants chatting together in their own social network, so no reason why you can’t set Ai up to email other Ai emailers.

This short three and a half minute film was created entirely by AI, yet has production qualities of a big studio. It has vibes of numerous video games and zombie shows.

A video game is interactive, this isn't.

Fair enough. I didn’t define what I meant by technology.

What I should have asked is what is the difference in audio and visual effects.

Both effects are proactive in a game, unlike a film which is totally linear.

When you play a game you control the narrative but you don't when watching a film. A game can also be linear, but may have side-quests along that linearity.
