I was more of a cider drinker in those days, but I do remember Watneys Red Barrel and the others. I'm glad beer has improved dramatically since then.

What I remember about UK beer on tap at the pubs (Whitbread, Watney’s, Worthington, and all others) is that it was pretty much room temperature.
The joke was that we had to go to Spain for cold beer, as it was the only country in Europe that had reliably cold, cold beer. -
Well maybe lager wasn’t as ubiquitous then but I’m not sure.
It is a long-standing observation of non-nationals thoughI remember going to bars in NY and PA in 1985. It was Miller, Michelob and Budweiser and that was your lot!
