I've been listening to Leo Rodriguez in the mornings on Aspen 102.3 for years, but recently noticed that his morning show had disappeared. Today I discovered that there's been a mass exodus from Aspen to a new radio station from La Nacion. This can be found at 104.9 FM or online as per the link.
Many of these DJs and producers had been with Aspen for over 30 years and although I don't know the reasons for their departure, it's possible that, since Aspen's owner is a union man and the station appears to be moving in a new, political direction, this could be the reason. Víctor Santa María bought Aspen and Telearte four years ago and being the head of SUTERH, the union for 'porteros', one has to wonder how he accumulated so much wealth. No prizes for guesswork on that one.
Clearly I'm of a certain age, but what I like about Leo's show and the others is that there's good chat about rock bands and other banter. I don't think I'll be going back to Aspen and this new station, which only went on air yesterday, follows the format of the old shows from Aspen and up until now, no advertisements.
