An unknown brand, but very reliable. I have a client who also has one and it hasn't failed once, apparently.

I think this is the lesser known brother of Brothers printers in Argentina!

Last Christmas I gifted myself a color printer. I went against my own promise to never buy another ink printer again (and moreover a HP one - my last one had a known issue and HP US was replacing them for free, but HP Italy refused to acknowledge the issue), but it was the cheapest way to get color prints at home and it has been 20 years since I had one, so maybe technology has improved.

The main issue with ink printers was the ink getting dry due to low usage, but I hope it won’t be the case now that I am running a home office. Another pitfall was that usually they came with a black cartridge and a multicolor cartridge, but at soon as one color run out, you had to replace it all.
another option was to buy a printer with separate cartridges for each color, but it was expensive.

Eventually, I found a HP ink tank multifunction printer/scanner/fax (does anyone still use faxes?!) which was on sale because it was a returned item. With this system, there is no ink-filled cartridge. Instead, there are individual tanks for ink, with small tubes leading to the printing head.

Scanning quality is up to 1200 dpi and it has an automatic feeder as well as the flat glass. It doesn’t scan double sides, but it prints on both sides. This seemed a cheap mistake, but overall the multifunction printer shows its limits even in other areas.
For example, if it prints single side, the sheets come out in one direction. If it prints double sides, they come out flipped.
No problem with flipping a page, but it gets annoying when you have a stack of prints and you have to check each sheet, one by one. I believe it should be a quick fix, programming wise. Overall, it is seems very entry level but does the job for me. Still, had I paid it full price, I wouldn’t be so generous.

My old b/w brother laser printer is much faster and prints with better quality. I am currently using both, the laser one to print drafts or b/w. Brother accepts non original laser cartridges, and I find replacements for under 5 USD, so I have stopped filling them in. I just buy a new one.

Hp Smart Tank 790 - Regular price 650-720.000 pesos, Outlet price 450.000 pesos (My card was charged 326 USD)

I never use our printer but the missus does...she'll print anything and everything!! I tell her if it's just for proof of payment she should just save it in file format rather than waste money on ink and paper not to mention filling the house with stacks of A4 which she'll never throw out.

As for printers I always bought Epson in the UK The missus has always used and still buys HP in Argentina despite her cursing them every time she uses it. To be fair to HP it's usually her fault as she's a bit of a serial clicker expecting the poor thing to react to her clicks every millisecond. I let her get on with it and go and hide.

I hate printing, but it is essential to my job. Reading on screen is not the same as reading on paper, and this is true for studying, as well.

I think a basic Brother laser printer is a worthy investment for any student, as the convenience and savings of doing your prints at home pay off very quickly.

We currently have on sale our very first Hl-1010 (no WiFi), as I am using the Hl-1212w (with WiFi) only.

For when I am in Italy, I have bought a double-sided b/w laser Brother. It is incredibly fast and the printing quality is amazing. And also much cheaper than in Argentina.

    I hate printers, full stop.

My wife prints a lot and I mean a lot, for her accounting job and we have one HP laser and a Samsung laser, both of which have so far, never let us down. We also buy compatible toner cartridges at a fraction of original prices.

And if anyone asks me to repair a printer, I run a mile.

There hasn’t been much improvement in home printing technologies in the last 20 years. It just got cheaper the laser ones, but that’s it.

Has luck has it, my brand new HP SmartTank 790 has stopped recognizing the black cartridge.

It had the same issue a few times in past, but I was always able to remove and re-insert the cartridge and keep on printing. I knew this day was coming, sooner or later. I am just glad it happened before the warranty expired.

My dear husband spent 45' minutes on the phone with HP support on a whatsapp video call where the operator instructed him to try this and that. They were very interested in the pagecount, as the warranty is up to 50,000 pages. My count was 435.

Since all attempts were unfruitful, HP will send us a new printing head and two new printing cartridges. However, they will send them separately and I shouldn't attempt to troubleshoot the printer until they have both arrived. Beats me, but here we are...

At least I can use it as a scanner.

Last Friday my missus printed out a tax bill she had to pay. Stopped at the Lottery shop who do Rapipago to transfer the money. She came back to the car blazing mad as the woman told her she couldn't scan it properly as it had to be printed in colour.

HP just reversed their mandatory policy to force every support caller into an automatic 15 minute hold time.

In an odd approach to trying to improve customer tech support, HP allegedly implemented mandatory, 15-minute wait times for people calling the vendor for help with their computers and printers in certain geographies.

Callers from the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Ireland, and Italy were met with the forced holding periods, The Register reported on Thursday. The publication cited internal communications it saw from February 18 that reportedly said the wait times aimed to “influence customers to increase their adoption of digital self-solve, as a faster way to address their support question. This involves inserting a message of high call volumes, to expect a delay in connecting to an agent and offering digital self-solve solutions as an alternative.”

Even if HP’s telephone support center wasn’t busy, callers would reportedly hear:

We are experiencing longer waiting times and we apologize for the inconvenience. The next available representative will be with you in about 15 minutes.

aficionado , my first thought was "jerks!".

But I have to report that our experience with HP Argentina was incredibly positive.

Yes, you have to speak on the phone with them for 45', share your phone camera and have a video call showing the agent you are doing all the proper steps he instructs you, like cleaning the printing heads with a dab of alcohol, restarting the printer, showing the printer's webpage that says that all seems fine until you try to print, and showing that you have been using original supplies.

The day after our call to Support, the two new print heads arrived by UPS in the early afternoon from HP's office downtown.

My husband had the step-by-step instructions on his whatsapp chat with the support agent from the day before, already. He played 15' with the printer and it was all solved.

My goodness gracious! It is a miracle!

Note: even if the error message was saying that no black cartridge was detected, the support agent said that both cartridges should be replaced at the same time, as the issue could be with any of them.

Perhaps they have a common circuit board. In any case, while the printer wasn't recognizing the black cartridge, I wasn't able to print using the color cartridge, only. This happened with past inkjet printers, and I have never understood why. It isn't ideal, but at least you can print while you get your hands on a new black cartridge!

That is certainly good news. It is always nice when a technical support session ends on a positive note.

Been driven mad tonight as the missus took delivery of her new HP Smart Tank printer and muggins here had to do the setting up of it. Before wifi came along it used to be easy installing a printer. Plug in a couple pf cables, insert the software disc and you were ready to go. With wifi it's taken me 4 hours at least installing it on two laptops and two mobiles. Not even sure it's working on them all. Best of it is I never print anything.

It should be simple in theory but in practice it can be hit and miss.

I have one of those, a WPS router and all that jazz. In theory, you should just press the WPS button on your router and a the option to connect automatically to WiFi on the printer. In practice, it hardly worked for me.

My go-to solution is always to manually enter the WiFi password directly on the printer. My last two have a display and allow this. The cheaper one require to do it via software, which is sometimes a pain if the software is poorly made. My solution back then was to use a USB cable for the first installation, put the WiFi password into the printer via software and then use it WiFi.

It seems to be working on all but the wife's mobile which is what she uses the most for print jobs. I messed about with it last night so will see if it works today. I suspect the problem might have been me rather than the product.

What's a WPS router? I have no idea what the WIFI password is either which probably explains why I had so much trouble. ^^

It is a common router with a button labeled WPS. If you press the button on the router AND at the same time start the connection procedure from the device you'd like to connect, they should 'see' each other and connect without using a password.

Usually, the WPS stays on for a couple of minutes. It was created to simplify connecting devices over WiFi.
