UK Man , I was in Dia this weekend and saw 2 for 1 KitKats. I planned on reporting this great “find,” until I realized that with the sale price, they still cost over 1900 each. Isn’t that a lot for a small candy bar?

My husband is in the mood for chocolate. As a fellow chocolate-lover, do you recommend any local chocolates that are more reasonably priced?

At Dia the cheapest chocolate is.... Hershey's, which is on offer right now.

I have been in the mood for chocolate for a while, but I am diverting my sweet craving to bread and marmalade.

Near where I live, a catering place - Gran Córdoba- that does catering, family and corporate events etc. and it has a signature cake called "torta Nora" which is very chocolate-y (and a tad too sugary for my taste). I was browsing their mini-cakes, and while the simplest ones (apple crumble, tiramisú, chocolate mousse) are $5000, the more complicate one (balcarce, rogel etc) are at $7-8000, while their signature Torta Nora is a whopping $9800.

Provided that a 1/4th of that is enough to satisfy my craving, it is still quite a price for a single portion. And these prices are in the range with what I am seeing around from similar places.

La Anonima are also doing an offer on KitKats. 50% off which brings the price down to 850 each. I suspect Dia's offer is similar...1900 for 2 rather than one.

We're currently enjoying Aguila Naranja chocolate bars. So much so we bought 20 bars when Vea recently had them on offer. Good quality with lovely pieces of tangy orange rind in them.

serafina , that’s a good idea, to satisfy the chocolate craving by having bread and marmalade. As our favorite bakery across the plaza now charges 6000 pesos for a loaf of masa madre pan integral, I’m considering returning to making bread. We have a honey store next door! (Substituting those great-looking chocolate mini-cakes won’t work for us, as we would consume the entire thing in a day.)

UK Man , I thought my eyes were deceiving me too (And I remembered that 1900 wrong; just checked the receipt and the exact amount is 1690 per bar, with the offer). Dia’s actual price rings up as 3380 minus 1690 with the 2 for 1 offer. Net price 1690 per 41.5g bar. Perhaps La Anonima sells a smaller bar? Or they just have better offers. In any case, we don’t have La Anonima here - - and our Vea was torn down to make way for another condo bldg.

While I’m not a big Hershey’s fan, it looks like serafina’s find of Dia’s 92g dark chocolate Hershey’s wins out this week.

Post all your chocolate finds here, please. We may need to rename this thread “Mainly Chocolate!”

That's a rip off 'full price' from Dia. A very common practice here when it comes to offers. All retailers here are guilty of doing it. They'd never get away with it in the UK....not to that extent anyway.

UK Man , does Dia maintain a high “regular price “ or does it jack the price up for its half price “offers?”

I’m always suspicious of Coto’s and Dia’s offers, but haven’t worked out whether they actually increase the “normal price” when they have a 3 for 2 or 2 for 1, or if if their normal prices are just always high.

Splinter , that orange chocolate looks good. Similar to the one UK Man likes.

Quite often in Dia , you will see the full price on the ticket and at the bottom they put the Bonificacion.

And sometimes the Bonificacion is only if you have the Club Dia card.

Just checked on the Dia mobile app.

    1690 is the full price

You can still buy two bars for 1690

I don’t think we can get loyalty cards at Dia or Coto, without DNI’s. Pity!

I got my Coto card on my passport when I arrived here 10 years ago. I am not sure if this is still an option.

Generally speaking, most offers are for everyone. The ones for their loyalty program are just a fraction. However, Coto asks for an ID to match the loyalty card with the legitimate owner. Once, I went to Coto with husband's loyalty card and they wanted to see his DNI. I only had a scan on my phone, but it was enough, thank god. He was also parked outside waiting for me. I didn't behave well when the clerk asked for his ID. It's not like a Tesco card with Tesco discount. You get a few cents off, that's all.

Talking about bread prices, today I was out shopping for my lunch.

I stopped at the veggie store and bought a small lettuce (which was half rotten once I started cutting it), 2 onions, 2 bananas and one avocado - the totale came at $3600 and they were short on cash, so my change was $20 instead of $100 (I handed $3700). The avocado alone, which was large and ripe, was $1800.

So I went to the butcher shop, asked for a bife de chorizo. The bife de chorizo was just $2600.

My salad was more expensive than my steak.

My salad was $1800 just in avocado, I had a tomato in the fridge from last week, and I have no idea how much the green salad was, but I guess lettuce and tomato were more than $800.

The bife de chorizo receipt reads a price of $9700 per kg. I didn't get any receipt at the veggie store.

In a local bakery, a mom-and-pop bread place, 1 kg of bread costs $2800.

Serafina's pouch of royal canin is $1977 for 85 gr. , which means over $23k per kg! She'd better be on a bife de chorizo diet!

This morning, I exchanged 100 USD for 1210 pesos, in case anyone wants to do some math.

Talking of Tesco, whenever we went, we borrowed a family member's loyalty card for the discounts and no questions were asked. The card just gets scanned, even if the checkout employee sees that the other family member is lending it to you.

Why should they care anyway? But here, ID is everything.

My question, exactly. I guess it is because they don't want people buy offer price to resell items at a higher price tag. I can't see anyone but beggars at light stops doing this with Elite tissues sold for twice the price of Carrefour.

The kit Kat discount was not related to the loyalty card. Check the bottom part of the sales ticket.
