Why the heck is he doing this for?

The mystery of Argentina’s gold: Milei admits that it was transferred abroad, without specifying the quantities or destination
While the government acknowledges that gold reserves have been sent outside the country, there’s no official information available regarding the purpose of the…

    Wake up Argentina

That's a bit rich coming from someone who doesn't even live the day to day of living in Argentina. In fact we are all very much awake to what's happening in this country.

How about expressing an opinion on the article that you didn't write instead of issuing soundbites?

It seems to me that the BCRA, which should in fact be an independent body and one which Milei is determined to shut down, is protecting its interests. However it's also true that the public should told where the gold is now being held.

You should also know that this government and let's not forget, previous Argentine administrations, is now paying for the mistakes of its predecessors. The YPF nationalisation, a populist move carried out by then economy minister, Axel Kicillof under the auspices of Kristina Kirchner, back in 2012, was a vicious attack on a private company that garrotted Repsol, a major shareholder at the time.

Now the government is being forced to pay US$16 billion in damages with the risk of it's assets being frozen or seized.

You should also know that life in this country is never simple.

Gold has storage costs. I doubt any return offered outweighs the shipping and storage costs. Maybe it’s considered not safe enough here? It’s an odd one.

That'd be my guess why they've kept shtum about its whereabouts. At least it's not in Venezuela.

    I’d store it for free.

I should add that gold against the USD reached an all time high just 2-3 weeks ago. Just for information

US judge, Loretta Preska has ordered that the Argentine government hand over information on the gold's whereabouts in this case which has been dragging on for years.

Burford Capital, a vulture fund, is after US$16 billion and frankly, the government can not afford any costly embargos like the Libertad ship in Ghana many years ago. Of course, this is all down to Kristina and Kicillof's underhand deals. Neither can the country afford such a horrendous payout.

No wonder they moved the gold to a secret location.
