I just read an article in El Pais that gave me more questions than answers. Does Milei intend to increase the retirement age immediately or gradually? If immediately, the sudden requirement to work an extra 10-15 years before being able to receive their promised benefits would disproportionately disadvantage the elderly.
Will the intended reforms include bringing into line the privileged pensions of former presidents, judges, military, diplomats, et alia?
How does the govt propose to handle the almost 40% who work in black and never contribute to the social security system, yet receive a minimum pension regardless? Apparently one solution being considered is excluding these people from the social security system (why were they ever included?) but making them eligible for state aid like that given to the “most disadvantaged families.” Clearly that is a long overdue reform, as is reform of the “privileged pensions” system.
