Sounds like the internet or many services will be down for the day. Not good for traveling in the world today. A bad automatic update spread quickly. Not hackers

I just saw that on the BBC website, even GP's and pharmacies have been affected.

GPs, pharmacies and airports in UK affected by IT outage
Some GP practices are struggling to access their records systems, which include online bookings.

This is why some banks have maintenance mode, to ensure that all updates don't affect the normal running of the business the next day. I don't know why hospitals and airports do the same. There are hours where there are less people are in urgent need for a hospital and airports do close for business in the wee hours

The extent to which it became so far-reaching seems unfathomable in 2024.

It suggests some nutter can bring the world to its knees with the push of a button.

And it need not be a nuclear one.

They really should be testing these updates before they're even released. The amount of carnage this is doing, is in nightmare proportions. And our over reliance on digital exchange and usage needs to be kept in check

My missus was on the phone to her insurance company today and was told their system was down. I had a look at Ezeiza arrivals and departures which showed they didn't seem to be too badly affected.

Just got in from Chile. No major delays down this way but apparently Aeroparque was a bit chaotic this morning.

Our big problem was that my taxi driver's elderly aunt fell in the shower , so he was half an hour late

Crowdstrike's shares were tumbling days before the event, is this really done on purpose?

Apparently, its also happened to Linux distros, so not confined to Windows operating system

CrowdStrike broke Debian and Rocky Linux months ago, but no one noticed
CrowdStrike recently caused a widespread Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) issue on Windows PCs, disrupting various sectors. However, this was not an isolated…

Maybe we should all go back to Windows 3.1.. I miss those dial up noises from the modems

Airline avoids CrowdStrike chaos because its systems run on Windows 3.1 and Windows 95
Southwest Airlines systems run on Windows 3.1 - a version of Microsoft's operating system from 1992. And because of that, it was unaffected by CrowdStrike.
