Joe Biden has pardoned his son, Hunter. but is this in retaliation to trump's pardons a few years ago?

Two wrongs don't make a right and it's likely that Hunter may not even have faced a prison term. Personally, I think Joe Biden should have left it well alone.

I wouldn't be surprised if Hunter announces he'll be running for President next. ^^

Hunter Biden is a pathetic loser who would still be simply another unprosecuted drug addict if not for his last name.

While I wish Biden hadn’t pardoned him, recent history (Trump pardons, Supreme Court rules of appointment, etc) has shown that the two political parties haven’t played by the same rules. Not pardoning his son would have earned Biden only contempt from the other side, whose prevailing attitude is demonstrably “Why have power if you don’t use it for your own benefit?”

He was already convicted of felonies related to the official forms he lied on to purchase a gun. Drug users are not allowed to purchase. and thus the illegal ownership of a firearm. He was just waiting for the sentencing to go to prison. It was an absolute with some years in prison. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/06/11/us/…&smid=url-share

I had read that he may have received a lenient sentence, but I may have been misled.

Presidential pardons should be banned for both parties.

I agree with GlasgowJohn . I don’t like pardons, but we are stuck with them.

Splinter , I think you might want to know more of the background, which undoubtedly caused President Biden to reconsider his original acceptance of the (then) justice system. This explains a lot:
