Biden and Trump face a lively election debate tonight and one would expect sparks to fly.

It will be on CNN International, and on all US major channels, for all to see. I expect few minds will be changed, as even an insurrection and 34 criminal convictions didn’t move the needle much.

Both candidates are old, for sure. One is old and a dirty fighter who is mendacious and deranged, and has no policies or convictions. But I suspect he’ll do a better job of staying awake than he did at his criminal trial last month.

I will watch at least a little bit to get a sense of where they’re both at.

Because this election will have enormous consequences for the entire world, people will be watching all over the planet. Of course the greatest consequences will be in the USA, so I have a lot of trepidation.

Trump is a pathological liar, and he is expected to lie about everything from sending the mob to attack the US Capitol and losing the 2020 election, to whether the sky is blue. Unfortunately, CNN announced yesterday that their moderators will NOT fact-check. So low-information voters can easily believe fabrications that will go unchecked.

The world is at a tipping point with poor western leaders. It is worrying.

    And NATO shows no teeth.

You are being generous, @Bombonera , when you say only that world leaders are poor.

    Piss poor. And weak.

Edit - breaking news! Here’s how to actually enjoy the debate!

Good bingo game. Better drinking game.

Joe Biden really struggled last night and was at times, incoherent.

I never watched it but the BBC news agrees and I can't say I'm surprised. The whole thing's pathetic.

Ok , most agree it is time for Biden to go,

How quickly will he step down or get thrown off the ticket?

Rice , Who would replace him?

Some may say this clip is cherry picked, but either way, it's worrying and at this rate, Trump is going to walk it if no other Democratic candidate steps forward.

If it's anything like in the UK, I presume there will be some convoluted protocols to follow to get him off the ticket if he doesn't voluntarily step away. He needs to be persuaded to do that by Monday latest in my opinion.

Biden gave the weakest possible performance in the debate. As president, he has proved that he can do the job, and very well; but as a candidate, his job is to communicate to the voters why they should vote for him. He failed in that job.

Bill Clinton understood the importance of perceived strength when he said “Better strong and wrong than weak and right.”

As I watched, I felt a growing sense of dread that Biden is all that stands between us and a convicted felon and aspiring dictator who lied his way through the debate, unstopped by either moderators or Biden.

To be honest the Democrats only have themselves to blame if Trump wins. Questions need to be asked why they allowed the old boy to dodder along. Blinken or Harris would be a certainty to win had one of them replaced him.
