BBC has coverage:
According to the NYT tonight, hours after his failed coup attempt, General Juan José Zuñiga was taken into custody. His military supporters were replaced by police loyal to President Luis Arce.
Take from this what you think after seeing this
The assumption is that anyone who attempts a coup is backed by the CIA?

In South America , yes.......
ThIs Bolivian chap signed a deal with Russia to supply them with Lithium. This is getting tossed about as a reason for CIA involvement.
Zuñiga made a deal with Russia, so he is said to be “CIA-backed?” Wouldn’t it be more likely that the CIA would have sabotaged him instead of enabling him?
I would posit that the CIA has had its wings cut since the debacles of the 70s and 80s.
We all know what what happened in Argentina in 76 and elsewhere (Oliver North anyone?), although perhaps Venezuela could be an exception.
