A close friend of my husband was stolen 12,000 USD by the maid yesterday. She first stole 2,000 USD when he was keeping the money in the drawer. He thought there was a mistake in counting the money the first time, so he didn't pay attention. Then 3,000 USD disappeared. At that point, he started putting the money in a small backpack which he kept on him whenever the maid came. (don't ask me why he didn't get rid of the two maids whom he used to hire!)
Yesterday, he left the backpack unattended to take a call, she took the money, finished her cleaning, got paid for the cleaning, and left. He soon realized the theft, rushed into the street to run after her, but she was gone. Her whatsapp went grey, and this became the most expensive cleaning in history.
Just to remember the kind of people you may take into your home whenever you hire someone. This is not the first time I hear that "I think my maid is stealing on me", and won't be the last. We don't have one for that very reason.
Horrible! I hope he at least gets a safe. If he has any money left.
He is, and thinking about it all day, I can't imagine what could have happened had he caught her in the act! Things could have quickly gone south. Perhaps she was armed, or had someone waiting for her outside/as a backup, or she could have faked a sexual assault.
Once he was on to her, it’s really too bad he didn’t keep his pack with him. But you are right: it’s certainly good that he didn’t catch her red-handed.
