The Amerigo Vespucci, a century-old training ship of the Italian navy, is in BsAs and allowing visitors on board today and tomorrow. It has been called the most beautiful ship in the world.

It is indeed a very old-look ship. I'd like to visit it but my husband has ignored my request.

What a beautiful vessel and I remember seeing her during one of the Tall Ships races in Portsmouth back in the 80s.

Nowt exciting I'm afraid.

I attended The National Sea Training College in Gravesend for several months. Although completing and passing the course I decided a life at sea wasn't for me.

It was back in the early 70's. My older brother was a third officer in the merchant navy and used to amaze me with his stories when on shore in far off lands. He'd fly off to join ships in the Far East or the US which also made me jealous.

However I realised having to spend six months away at sea wasn't really for me so chickened out. My brother on the other hand went on and became a Captain with Chevron. He's now enjoying his retirement with hs wife in Scotland and the Algarve.
