  • I think meat is a no brainer. My favorite cuts are entraña and mollejas.

Besides that, I find myself craving for sandwich de miga from time to time! One of my favorite is the one with roquefort and ham, and I'd have a toasted plain one (ham & cheese) anytime!

Así podés hacer el mejor sándwich de miga casero, en simples pasos

  • The only ready made food we buy are empanadas mainly because making them involves too much faffing about. We've found a new place run by a lady and her daughter who the wife knows. It's really a sandwich shop but recently they started making and selling empanadas on Wednesday's only. We bought some beef as well as chicken ones recently and they were superb....best I've ever tasted.

As I enjoy making asado we never buy it ready made.

  • Baked empanadas for me, too. My favorites are caprese, jamon y queso, and jamon con Roquefort y nueces. Mmmmm. Would like some now.

Agree with you, serafina , about sudden cravings for miga sandwiches. I also love the paper-thin, cheese-drenched pizza a la parrilla.

    And yes, bife de lomo.

    And medialunas.

    And choripan.

    And pan de pizza.

  • I had great empanadas in the Salta region, home made by an elder lady in her kitchen. I could have stayed there chunking empanadas all day. Never have I ever tasted empanadas so good in my life.

There are few places that sell fried empanadas in Capital, and most of the time they are just too heavy to digest. Some pizza places also serve friend empanadas, but from what I have seen they sit on display for a few hours, so they must be heavy as a rock!

when we buy they are fried to order. Fried ones that lie on the shelves are pretty disgusting.

  • What about beer? It seems you liked Andes and Imperial, if I recall correctly.

Not exactly a home-made recipe, but still...

I do prefer darker beers so tend to stick to the stouts as all makes you get here are pretty good. I'll usually drink the Rubia stuff only if I have to. Andes is very nice.

Quilmes Doble Malta is also a decent beer. There was a good offer on it in the supermarket a week or so ago so got 6 bottles of it.

  • What do you think about Quilmes Stout vs. Bock?

Last time I saw both on a pizzeria menu, the bock was unavailable and I picked the Stout. However, it was too sweet for my taste. I used to love it when I first moved here.

I've only tried the Quilmes Stout, Doble and Classic varieties. Never seen the Bock for sale here. I too used to find the Quilmes Stout a bit on the sweet side but I've got used to it. Imperial stout is less sweet and very good as is the Andes stout.

  • Oh my! How could I have left alfajores off my list? And Dulce de Leche in general?

UK Man , if there are no Argentine foods that you crave, are there any Scottish foods that you crave? Or are you just not generally a food craver?

Yes I also like dulce de leche but I was really thinking of main meal type foods.

I used to miss asados when we lived in Scotland as we didn't have a garden. Apart from that I can't think of any other foods here I couldn't get or make in Scotland.

I do miss the vast fish and seafood selection avaiable in Scotland the most.....here it's total crap.
