The US House of Representatives has passed a bill requiring TikTok's owners, ByteDance to sell its stake in the app within six months or face a total ban in the US. The fears many in the US have is that the data harvesting is being passed onto the Chinese Communist Party and the bill will now go to the Senate.

My opinion of TikTok is that it's toxic and I've written an article on this which should be published in the next few days.

TikTok: What is it, how does it work and could the US ban it?
Former US President Donald Trump tried to ban the app in 2020, but now opposes plans to restrict it.

I heard about this but not certain of the reasons. Is it just because it is Chinese-owned?

There's a lot wrong with Tiktok; neafrly everyone gets banned either temporarily or permanently at some point. I must be going wrong because I'm a good few years in now without a squeek from them.

The algorithm is a bit keen there. A trigger word, or smoke, or a knife, or a vape and it's goodnight for a few hours, days or permanently.

The only times I've watched TikTok is when someone posts a video link. That's hardly very often.

Young people seem to think it's only for them but in fact there's all kinds of content on there from all kinds of people. There are a lot of content creators from Argentina on there as well.

I watched an Aussie guy that lives in the UK talk about the Ukraine war each day. He was in his 80s. He grew a huge audience but of course TikTok didn't like it. He played cat and mouse with them. Each time they banned him, he would open another account but he seems to have given in and disappeared.

And that's how Tiktok is unfortunately. The ban hammer is never far away.

Quite clearly there's an agenda on TikTok and my gut tells me that it's directed by the politburo of the PRC.

I suspect she didn't me the full story. It was probably to do with a K supporter though. ^^

    My view on TikTok

How Safe Is TikTok? | Daves Computer Tips
The answer largely depends on your definition of safe. Safe for users, or safe for the state? Or both? I don’t use TikTok, have not signed up with the app, and…

    Good column, Splinter .

“It’s worth noting that the previous US administration was hell-bent on banning TikTok, but it appears that the leader of said ex-administration has now flip-flopped on the idea.

You might ask why this is. Es complicado, but this article shines a spotlight on some of the entangling factors. Poor guy - - what’s a grifter to do?

As Congress moves to maybe ban TikTok in the US, Trump sources say his opposition to it is about courting Gen Z. “This is Biden’s ban now, and tens of millions…

    I'm working on it.

Well I probed deeper. It was Instagram and when I asked what she'd been up to she just told me ''I'm not sure but I think it must have been something I said''. Very coy of her so I just left it at that incase she went in the huff with me!! ^^

I commend you for your bravery in name of the truth, UK Man !

My husband is also ruffling feathers online, I have found out. I would say trolling around, but I don't want to open a can of worms... especially in my own household!

    Wise.

I ruffle feathers on a couple of forums I frequent. Been suspended quite a few times. ^^ Some folk take these forums awfully seriously.

My mother in law has been suspènded at least six times by Facebook - mainly for political infighting with her chosen enemies.

Meanwhile I have been banned by Twitter for something I didn't do.
