A company in Microcentro, known to both of us for travel and money exchange, was the subject of an elaborate heist last Friday night and it was only discovered on Monday morning by the staff.
The gang placed high awnings and steel frames around the entrance with signs such as 'men working/road works...', broke the locks, created circular holes in the reinforced glass, covered up all the security cameras and then made their way down to the vault.
From what I was told, the gang was equipped with very sophisticated drilling equipment, oxyacetylene gear, oxygen tanks, masks and a special tool for grinding out the locks on the vault.
The good news is that they couldn't open the vault (it wasn't empty, shall we say), so all they took was one laptop, a few mobile phones and some petty cash, leaving all their equipment behind, like this example (not actual pic):
One of the employees told us that the scene that greeted them was like something out of the Spanish TV series, Money Heist, but as you might expect, there was an enormous sense of relief that the gang couldn't open the vault.
I expect the gang is somewhat deflated, but questions remain as to how they knew the layout of the target and if it was an inside job.
