@TravelAddict No it is different. I've been vaccinated against Yellow Fever a couple of times. It was always officially the case that the vaccine gave protection for 10 years but I've read some research that suggests in reality it is lifetime protection.

I'm not your medical advisor obviously!

It costs 37000 pesos each and you have get it done twice. I've been reading up about it and it's all rather confusing. One site says over 60 year olds shouldn't get it which counts us out.

I've told the missus to consult one of her doctor friends and let them decide. I see no point in getting it if there's no need.

Be sure to find out the reason it’s not recommended for people over 60. I don’t think it’s because you suddenly develop a natural immunity. Sometimes there’s a medical reason, but sometimes it’s because they figure people over 60 are headed to the grave anyway! 🫣

@TravelAddict , dengue is colloquially known as “break bone fever” for a reason. Extremely painful. You don’t want it.

A doctor talks to a man sitting on the patient's table. The caption reads: But living longer may not be right for you.

Seems my dengue vaccine research was a load of tosh. So the missus has the vaccine in the frdge awaiting the nurse's arrival tomorrow at 11am to give us it. She's been her before to give us our flu and pneumonia jabs.

Good news is the health insurance will cover 40% of the vaccine costs.

If it had been up to me I wouldn't have bothered.

Here's an article about the vaccine.

Just been informed by the nurse she can't come to vaccinate us. Her daughter in La Plata has appendicitis and she's had to go.

Is there somewhere you could go for the vaccine? Not as handy as concierge service, but more expedient than waiting.

The missus says we'll get it done during the week. It takes a while for the vaccine to be effective so even if we'd got it this morning it wouldn't have made any difference. Heard the nurse's daughter underwent surgey and is fine so that's good.

What is the "season" for the little buggers in Buenos Aires and province? This time last year I was in Bariloche and didn't get bitten there I don't think but I was getting eaten alive in Olivos in April.

Late summer and early Autumn where I am however I suppose it all depends on the weather. They were certainly worse today out in the countryside today than any other recent day. I had to go back into the car for the OFF to spray myself before unlocking the entrance door. One thing I noticed straight away was the black dogs were covered in them while the white one didn't have any.

Interesting observation about the dogs. I believe instructions for avoiding mosquito problems usually include “wear long sleeved, light-colored clothing.” It would be good to find out why their preferred sushi bar is light instead of dark hors d’oeuvres.

The mozzies were lethal today when I met up with other motorcyclists in Olivos, prior to hitting the road.

There were a bunch of 'real bikers' in the YPF station when we stopped to fill up this afternoon.

    Hello everybody,

In Misiones Dengue is an important matter.

The vaccinations are free if you are in the health system, you use the app and book your appointment.

The vaccination is compulsory at several factories I know.

Our part-time gardener/handyman went down with it over Xmas and though a solid chap, was out of service for 3 weeks.

    Cordialement,

Don't think they're free in the whole country because we had to pay many thousands for the vaccines last week from the pharmacy. Some of the cost is retrievable through our health insurance though.
