On the vertical tree map (where are the cats and birds?), what do the numbers represent?
i.e. English 328, Spanish 329?

No idea! I have also notices some omissions, for example Friulan (a language spoken in Eastern Italy).
GlasgowJohn , do you speak Gaelic? The first time I traveled abroad alone I ended up in Scotland and couldn't understand a word of English, let alone Gaelic!

Gaelic is only spoken by about 100k Scots from the Hebrides and the Highlands.
It was never the language of the Central Lowlands. Gaelic is not my language .....
The language of the lowlands is Lallans , a dialect of English..I can understand Lallans but it is really only a literary language now
When I have a wee whisky and start to call my sisters, my wife who speaks great English cannot understand me....
