The CGT and other unions will bring most of the country to a halt next Wednesday, but most of us will carry on working. The government has said that state workers who strike will not be paid.
I can't see the government backing down on its decree, perhaps a few concessions but nothing more.

Can the government actually refuse to pay state workers who strike? Are they unionized?

If the union forces you to go out in strike then they should pay you. Here in the third world though.....
Most of the country to a halt? Really? The first demonstration of the Milei era went off like a damp squib and the demonstrating organisations were billed for the police presence. Okay so the organisers have had more time to prepare tactics but then so have the authorities.
We have vaccination appointments on the 24th so we will be out and about on the day - unless the appointments get cancelled.

It won't have any effect where I am. Everything closes down every afternoon anyway and the streets become deserted.

Maybe I was exaggerating, but these national strikes tend to be total with no trains, buses and banks etc. Normal activity such as small shops and businesses carry on as normal.

It's uncertain. Some banks may be open till midday, service stations will be open as will supermarkets.
You can bet Banco Nacion will will be out in force because of the threat of privatisation.
I don't see this strike having any effect on the situation at all and it won't be the last. Touch the sleezy unions' cushy number and you've got a touchstone.

All the banks here are on summer hours so already close at 1pm anyway. The vastly subsidised rail line and train station only gets two trains a week departing at 4am so nowt to worry about there. I suspect the long distance coach services which are popular won't be affected.

This is likely what is going to happen. They will file a claim in court and the things will drag on for years. When the govt. changes it will go away (case closed). And they loved happily ever after!

I really don't know how it happens in Argentina but in the UK non-payment of a civil debt has no real legal consequences. However if the plaintiff obtains a court order for payment and that is ignored then that is contempt of court which - as a certain ex-President of the United States is finding out - is a whole other ball game.
I am not totally sure this is a civil debt.
I think it is the same as not paying your taxes.
