Tragically, the coastguard plane crew died in the collision, but miraculously all the 379 passengers of the Airbus A350 managed to escape unharmed.

Having seen some of the videos I can't imagine how terrifying this must have been. And how did the plane become engulfed in flames so very quickly?

Was it aviation fuel or are planes generally that flammable?

When I saw the initial footage this morning I couldn't see how it was possible that everyone got off the plane. In fact I was sure there must have been a communication mistake. So what an incredible job was done saving all those lives. It seems miraculous in the circumstances.

Indeed, all credit to the crew!

Japan has a phenomenal record when it comes to transport safety," Prof Braithwaite tells the BBC as he describes JAL as a "world leader" in safety.

"The evacuation has been successful and it is a reminder how much has gone into training cabin crew.

"Their focus is on safety. They are the last people to evacuate the airplane and on face value, it looks like they have done an incredible job

The A350 was full of fuel at the time, so if it's in a collision it goes up inflames very quickly.

Last week leaving Ezeiza for Iguazu, we hit a couple of birds - the protocol requires you return to check the engines. We had to circle for 50 minutes to burn off fuel before we could return to base.

GlasgowJohn , was the bird hit a terrifying experience, or did it feel more like just a bit of turbulence?

Very slight turbulence - the first time in 50-plus years of flying it has happened to me.

    The captain was excellent!

A great amount of information- told us what happened and what they would do.

That would have scared me a tad.

The only time I've hit turbulence, was 5 years ago. I think it only happens on long haul flights, as they tend to fly nearer to the jet stream

More details have emerged about the collision on the runway

The video does work, probably not embedded into this post

Still can’t believe they all got off, with the captain finally leaving the plane 18 minutes after landing.

    Glad I didn’t see this 3 weeks ago -
