Except for the grass cutting and car washing, sounds like a complete role reversal from the 1950’s, when the Little Woman was expected to put meals on the table, scrub the floors, and leave the driving, the decisions, and the family finances to the Man of the House.

Mrs UK Man had better watch out - - - this led to the sexual revolution of the 1970’s and the Women’s Liberation movement!

Yes...time for a Man's Liberation movement methinks.

In general, I’d say the most men don’t need it. But in your case, it sounds like it might be on the horizon!

    I don't.

Although we both have our responsibilities.

We both have our own bank accounts, we share a credit card and my wife is the main breadwinner.

I take care of maintenance chores, she generally cooks dinner, I wash up and we share decisions where possible.

Neither does she nag me about things because she has more persuasive methods which generally involve reminding me gently so it's not seen by me as nagging, shall we say.

It's a balance and seems to work.

We bought an Amazon Echo Dot, but hardly ever use it. The question is - does it listen in the background?

I am already annoyed that my own smart phone eavesdrop every conversation I have, so I have never considered home assistants.

For example, I used Instagram for my business, and sometimes people sends me audio messages. In order to be able to use my phone audio with IG, I have to authorize the mic use for IG. This also means that IG pulls up paid content for me based on what it listens in the background.

And this doesn't mean "when I am on the phone", but anytime. For example, I am in class, my phone is on but tucked away, and we are discussing about divorce law. The next day, I start getting ads from divorce lawyers, posts from psychologist with couple therapy advice and so on.

If we speak about babies and their upbringing, and I get paid content about parenting. It is annoying and SCARING at the same time.

I have an older Echo which has a button. I have disabled the hands-free option, which means it never listens except for the few seconds after I press the button to speak my command. You can try to disable hands free (so it does not listen in background) using the Android or iOS Alexa app. When I am far from the echo device I can use the mobile app to tell Echo to increase volume or change the music.

Say “Alexa, play ninety three point seven nacional rock” since they are broadcasting from Noche de los Museos. I think that is fito paez playing now.

These Sonoff smart devices are what we have installed in our house since testing the first 7+ years ago. Now we have several to handle a few automated tasks. Mostly lighting and monitoring. They are all autonomous since the open source Tasmota project shows how to erase the factory firmware to install a more more secure firmware that removes the need for cloud or internet or even a central hub. The company also has a few devices they say are DIY capable, meaning they can also be autonomous without the technical difficulties of Tasmota modification.

Now I see they the entire product line is available here in Argentina from the main distributor and other distributors throughout the country.
