We usually fuel up the car at the towns YPF station on the way to the countryside. Last Tuesday we stopped and thought it strange it was so quiet as it's usually pretty busy. We were told they had no petrol only diesel and it would be like that until this Monday coming. The missus asked the guy why? Only to be told ''it's complicated''!!

Fortunately the tank was still a third full so at least we had enough for several days. The missus asked about and a couple of days later we were able to fill the tank at the main YPF on Ruta 5. Today we read that petrol is now to be rationed as there's a supply issue. Anyone else been having problems?

There has been a lot of talk about possible shortages. Is this real? Manufactured?

    I love the all-purpose excuse: “It’s complicated.”

Yes the poor boy did seem to be taken aback when asked the question. I suspect he didn't understand or hadn't been listening to what he'd been told. ^^

Since heard it's a supply issue which could mean anything.

BAtimes/Bloomberg mentioned yesterday. Some tankers left out in the river waiting for someone to pay the bill.

Argentines queue for fuel as FX shortage strands tankers at sea
Growing lines at the pump and darkened gas stations at night are tangible signs of a fiscal crisis spiralling out of control.

    Indeed.

Frends and family back in the UK have been contacting me recently asking if we're alright. Goodness knows what they've been hearing about what's going on here.

Could be a long wait. But the current government doesn’t want to look bad before the balotaje, so maybe some dollars will appear more rapidly than usual.

I woke up at 7 am and thinking to beat the crowd I went to the nearest YPF, but they were out of fuel. The next one on Av. Cordoba had 2 blocks lines of cars. Since I still have half a tank full, I decided to leave it for another day.

It's being reported in the local newspaper today. Not looking too good. Just as well we don't have to travel far.

Good decision. Surely the situation will be resolved by Monday. No government wants the voters thinking about fuel shortages, especially if caused by an inability to pay the bills, as they head into an election.

It's the same here in Olivos and all Zona Norte, so I won't be using the bike again until Monday.

The shortage of gasoline and diesel throughout the country has its reasons in the backwardness of the values at the pump against inflation, 38 percentage points, and the lack of dollars. Service stations are selling for quotas of up to $10,000, while others have closed to the public. Faced with this situation, the government rushed the import of 10 fuel ships and attributed the behaviour of consumers in the last few hours to a "psychosis" effect.

This was the opinion of the Secretary of Energy, Flavia Royón, who sought to reassure the public: "There is no structural shortage of fuels", she remarked. The official headed a meeting on Friday with the main operators and also promised to put an end to the technical stoppages in the next ten days to increase the capacity of the country's main refineries.

This should happen on the weekend of the ballotage. Then we will see who wins!

Just under half a tank , I half-heartedly looked for petrol today.

Passed by 4 petrol stations - queues about 5 blocks in each one.

    Maybe tomorrow.

This from Rowan Atkinson pretty much sums up this regime:
