Be sure to go outside to see the full Harvest Moon tonight! This will be the final supermoon of this multi-supermoon year, and according to

    Space.com:

“Fittingly for such a special supermoon, the Harvest Moon will also be joined by a parade of planets in the sky, including the solar system’s largest worlds, Jupiter and Saturn, as well as its smallest, Mercury.”

    Sounds like a spectacular night!

Last supermoon of 2023 rises tonight. Don't miss the Harvest Moon shine with 3 bright planets
Rising on Friday, Sept. 29, the Harvest Moon will be joined in the sky by our solar system's two largest planets, Jupiter and Saturn, and its smallest, Mercury.

I did think the moon was a bit bigger last night. We don't seem to have many supermoons in one year

It is unusual, but I believe there were 4 supermoons this year. They are so wonderful!

I read somewhere that, because it is the second full moon in a calender month, it also may be called a Blue Moon but I don't know if that is an old wives' tale or not.

bebopalula , you made me curious about Blue Moons, so I went to a reliable source. To make sure I don’t misinterpret, I’m linking it here.

What is a blue moon and how often does it occur?
How common are blue moons in astronomical terms?

Speaking of the moon, we’re approaching the 51st anniversary of the Apollo 17 astronauts’ moon walk, which opened so many possibilities in the imaginations of those of us watching from nearly a quarter of a million miles away.

The New York Times today reports that NASA is planning a return to the moon, but this time, to stay long-term, building houses via a 3-D printer, perhaps even establishing communities there by 2040.

“The U.S. space agency will blast a 3-D printer up to the moon and then build structures, layer by additive layer, out of a specialized lunar concrete created from the rock chips, mineral fragments and dust that sits on the top layer of the moon’s cratered surface and billows in poisonous clouds whenever disturbed — a moonshot of a plan made possible through new technology and partnerships with universities and private companies.”

    Complete story:

Maybe in Your Lifetime, People Will Live on the Moon and Then Mars
Through partnerships and 3-D printing, NASA is plotting how to build houses on the moon by 2040.
