Hi I am new here on this forum and intend to look at buying an apartment in Recoleta. I have visited the city several times for months at a time spanning years. I wondered if anyone has experience with a company called buysellba please? Any other advice re buying an apartment here (to airbnb it part of the year and live in the rest of the year) would be appreciated too! I know the basics, like paying in cash. Thanks!

Welcome Serenidad
Let's see what we can do.
serafina is quite knowledgeable about these things.

Welcome to the forum, Serenidad . Like you, I’m a long-time returner to BsAs for the max allowed time each year. Because renting has served me just fine, I don’t have any experience with buysellba or any other real estate agency. But I’m sure you’ll get help from other forum members. I look forward to reading about your decision, and hope your property hunt will be lots of fun!

Thanks for the warm welcome guys! serafina, if you are free I would love to have a coffee and hear about your experience! 😊

Looking at the advice given by BuySellBA on its website, I would say they seem fairly serious. But I have never heard of them before today. That is neither good nor bad. My partner is from Argentina and we tend to be guided by family and friends on all these matters.

Well they want to charge a us 5k retainer and charge 2%, legal fees which I don't pay anywhere near in the uk. But they cite the dangers of moving money and paying cash... I am not sure if they're scaremongering to get paid for a service that's unnecessary.

Looking at their website they can certainly talk the talk. I get the feeling they won't come cheap but if they're able to produce the goods then it'll be worth paying the extra for.

is that USD 5,000?

I wouldn't do anything, certainly not sign papers or definitely not hand over any cash. Sounds like a scam to me, I'm afraid.
Family and friends' recommendations are the best.

I agree.

By good fortune, coincidence or witchcraft, last night/today (depending on where you are reading this from) a very new poster in Another Place has revealed the owner of buysellba to be a different, longer-term poster in that same Other Place. Whether that connection is a good thing or a bad thing I really don't know but here is a shortened link to the message:

So is early...the owner of said buysellba?
Apparently it's this chap and his testimonials are very good. I would however, still be wary.

Especially wary of people who say things like this:
“Fortunately I was smarter.”

Whilst I like the idea of owning my own piece of Argentina, even with savvy, trustworthy friends and contacts, including you good people, I find the prospect too scary.
Actually, it made me wonder further about all the valuable real estate north of the city, some of it going to rack and ruin. Maybe even these people see selling up too bloody difficult and risky.

In the past few days he seems to have stepped up a few gears and appears to be mounting a metaphorical take-over bid for control of the Other Place. He appears to have upset quite a few of the regulars - and I don't just mean those in the property business - but whether those are grounds to doubt his honesty and trustworthiness in his business dealings I couldn't say.

I would take my hat off to anyone who upsets regulars at the other place. Maybe it's because I'm a trouble maker?

Understatement of the year, Splinter .

Recently he has built another forum according to his Twitter posts. Seems like it is AI bots and perhaps paid humans scraping all the threads and posts from the Other Place. Reproducing all the topics in his forum, with fake users posting the real content from the other place. It is interesting since every day it seems more AI like. At first pure cut and paste, and now little grammar changes, and more strange conversations with "people" giving high praise and thanks to the owner for creating the amazing site. Also the BuySellBA owner jumps in to provide "helpful" responses to stolen questions. At some point I imagine it will be only AI bot talking to other AI bots only to receive visits from tourists.
Could be to promote his BuySellBA business. Or really far fetched, that the Other site owner is on on the whole thing too wanting to cash out.

Alice. Down the rabbit hole.

Here's the X post where they openly ask people to post on BAexpats (that other place), take a screenshot and be in with a chance of winning $200, knowing that any reference to their new forum will be deleted.
