The National Institute of Statistics (INDEC) published a report stating that those earning more than 280,000 pesos (about 800 USD at the official rate) are in the top 10% earners of the Nation.

As usual, no idea how they came to this number, given that Argentina is quite dishomogeneous - living in Puerto Madero can't compare to the "interior".

I am posting this since the question "how much do I need to retire in Argentina?" comes up often.

    Full article on LN here.

As for us, we have recently looked at how much we spent in 2022, and we averaged 1100 USD/month for the two of us. We own, but we still pay condo fees (about 50-80 USD per month). We are not counting 2023 since every month we had issues with the 23 y.o. old car and it added up quite a lot.

Changed the title of the thread from “If you gain at least 800 USD/month, you're doing better than 90% of Argentinians” to “If you earn at least 800 USD/month, you're doing better than 90% of Argentinians”.

serafina your posts are always of the highest quality and I recall your post many months ago where you broke down your monthly expenses.

This is very helpful and of course a reminder that most Argentines earn less than that and have to pay rent out of those lower earnings.

Then there’s the Argentines earning those low earnings but living in million dollar inherited properties up north of the city.

Can anyone explain how this works? Taxes, expensas, and maintenance on those places must cost much more than rent on a modest apartment would be.

Rice , I think they simply don't pay and put the place as a "bien personal", and as such (your primary residence) it cannot be confiscated.

Ever? And when the current inheritors die, does the state get the property in lieu of unpaid taxes?

On the same subject, I have just found this page that breaks down utility cost for an apartment in Recoleta (about the same size as ours). Prices are updated to July/August 2023: https://buysellba.com/monthly-fees-%26-utilities

That website is a goldmine of information on buying/selling real estate in Argentina, in case you are fancying the idea of owning.

The missus had a meeting yesterday with the guy who rents, to discuss the new contract. I know sod all about such things but after reading that it seems she did alright.

Thanks serafina as always. The up to date utility bills were interesting, as was everything else of course.

It is in the news today that a numerologist (not a data analyst) was hired by Banco Nación for her services. I guess there was no magician available locally, so they had to rely on the best "made up in the air" number maker available. This sort of news is something that wouldn't be taken for serious abroad, but it is VERY TRUE in Argentina. It literally is a circus.

Una famosa numeróloga reconoció haber sido contratada por el Banco Nación: cuánto cobró por sus servicios
En medio de la polémica por la designación de familiares en cargos importantes y el pago de sueldos millonarios, ambos autorizados por Silvina Batakis,…

This useless woman who lasted one month as economy minister, also hired her ex- husband at Banco Nacion with a salary of AR$9m per month. Yes, AR$9m.

    Fecking unbelievable.

It seems we weren't the only ones who were appalled by it and the Director is now gone. But not without collecting a millionaire fee for that.

    www.lanacion.com.ar

All in all, the numerologist got paid 2500 USD (blue rate of 700) over 6 months for her "coaching services", whereas the Director gave a rise for herself and she earned a staggering 15k USD for her first month on the job.

It seems she also put her ex-husband in a high-level position, and to do so she had to transfer other two employees... of which one to Miami.

I am not sure who she pissed to make this go public, because it sounds such a win-win for everyone involved.

The only winner ultimately turns out to be the one who got the transfer to Miami.
