We’re in the middle of a 2-day drive between two major bodies of water in the middle of the USA: the Great Lakes and the Gulf of Mexico.
The scenery is majestic around the Great Lakes, but it becomes a lot less interesting in the adjacent states, which are flat and endless, rather like the Pampas. Right now, we’re stuck in a time warp in Illinois, which is approximately 750 km from top to bottom, is pretty much my definition of eternity, though I don’t know if eternity includes windmill farms or cornfields.
