Interesting to read the divergent paths of Brazil and Argentina.

The BBC article said that dollarization had helped curb Ecuador’s inflation. Still, compared to Argentina, Ecuador seems to be a more expensive place to live.

We really don’t know what effect dollarization would have on Argentina.

Milei would have to get it passed through Congress first, which is unlikely.

Not one mention of corruption in The Economist video.

The video did briefly touch on Cristina’s kleptocracy, but you’re right: corruption as THE overriding problem was ignored.

Aside from that major flaw, I think the video does a good job of explaining the multiple other factors contributing to the dismal economy.

It's an excellent video. Just confirms what we already knew right enough. That the country's economy has been a joke for many years. All self inflicted by arseholes who craved affection.

Good May report card from Reuters:

“BUENOS AIRES, Jun 19 (Reuters) - The Argentine Trade Exchange (ICA) recorded a positive balance of 2,656 million dollars in May, the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC) said on Wednesday, a figure that was far higher than expected by analysts.

With the May data, the South American country accumulates six consecutive months of trade surplus, which is supported by liberal policies implemented by President Javier Milei.

A survey conducted by Reuters estimated a positive result of $1,633 million for the ICA for the fifth month of 2024.

INDEC said that exports totaled $7,622 million in May, with a year-on-year improvement of 21.7%, and imports totaled $4,966 million, representing a drop of 32.8% compared to the same month of the previous year.”

This makes me so sad. Led by desperation or greed, the victims clearly weren’t millionaires who could afford to lose the money. Awful.

There's been a few cases of it happening here. Sadly, mostly to those who are elderly.
