    The Blue dollar hit $527

In La Plata, Five heavily armed men with machine guns and bullet proof vests raided a branch of Banco Provincia, held customers and employees hostage while they bagged the loot and then made off in two stolen cars, one of which was set on fire a few blocks away. They were also monitoring the police radio communications channel, so were one step ahead. No one was injured.

It's confirmed that the Central Bank printed around AR$150bn in pesos on 13th July to fund the treasury.

The country's debt is more than US$800bn...

A family of four today needs around AR$232,000 per month to not fall into the poverty zone.

The printing press was certainly working overtime on July 13. It’s too bad they didn’t crank out the 150 billion pesos 4 days earlier, just for the symbolism of their wanton desecration of nueve de julio.

Regarding the robbery of the La Plata branch of Central Bank, what a relief that these armed thugs didn’t kill anyone. I can’t imagine that they got an enormous sum from a branch office?

(I believe that staying one step ahead of the police isn’t very hard, since they seem desperate not to catch anyone.)

    Don't argue with a train.

Impressive that the train wasn’t derailed. And the truck driver crawled out his window, apparently unharmed?

The railway that serves us is a joke. There's about two trains a week in either direction with a top speed of 30km an hour, if even that. A massive loss maker if ever I saw one. The unions to blame no doubt.

Yes UK Man , twice a week and the times aren't the best either. I took it 30 years ago when I'm pretty sure there was at least a daily service.

Its probably the lorry drivers union to blame - they dont want a string railway network , cos it will compete against them.

That’s EXACTLY what the root of the problem is, GlasgowJohn . Their union drove US railways out of business in the 1960’s and ‘70’s; today there are very few freight lines using trains, leaving mostly a struggling and unprofitable passenger train service.

What a pity! Everyone loves train travel.

125 years ago , Argentina had a decent network when it was run by our boys . Years of non existent investment and a strong Truckers Union means only one thing.....

Indeed. It used to be like that in the UK back when I was a boy. The strongest union leaders were better known than those who ran the flippin' country. They were never off the telly.
