Videos and photos of Buenos Aires

  • Splinter

Changed the title of the thread from “Videos about Buenos Aires” to “Videos and photos of Buenos Aires”.
  • No idea of the date of this photo of Buenos Aires, perhaps early 20th century?

i assume that is a photo prior to 1946. the ecclesiastical curia is at the side of the Cathedral, and the Banco de la Nacion central branch is not already built, but the Diagonal NORTE is finished. probably 1938. To remember the peronist, the ecclesiastcla curia was destroyed by the peronists in september 1955, with all the archives and documents, by a mob ordered by some fanatical peronist in response of the bombing made by the Nacy on the same day.

  • Peron since 1954 had a conflict with the church thay was shared by many people, which considered him a dictator.

the argentine navy and the air force, with the newer fighters jets provided by the UK after the war decided to kill him by bombing the PLAZA DE MAYO in june 1955, just after the corpus christi procession. A real unfortunate decision, as many people died and Peron was not killed, it is like to kill a fly sending a nuclear bomb.

but later, in September 1955, Peron was definitely routed and fled to Paraguay and then hosted by Franco in Spain, and then after many unsuccesful goverments he was reelected in 1973 and finally died in 1975, leaviing as vice president his wife, an ignorant lady which still lives and gets its pension in Madrid,

the country was in the middle of the guerrilla warfare, fueled by the ussr and castro in cuba.

remember that in those years the cold war was fighted in latin america in a hot way, with many communist wishing to conquer the whole subcontinent to challenge the USA back yard.

That is the reason why we had a militaary dictatorship from 1976 to 1983, which ended with the stupid adventure in MALVINAS, which produced the contrary of that was being pursued before.

  • So the Church disapproved of Peron because they considered him a dictator? But it was the military, not the Church that tried to assassinate him, yet he retaliated against the Church? Were the military and the Church allied?

The conflict with the Church was because Peron allowed the divorce and also propoitiated the brothels in order to satisfy people sexual desires, provided by inspections of health to the women who attended them , whores of course.

this was a gross mistake, because in 1946 Peron was supported by the church, and nobody would think that he will do that. The condition of Peron becoming a dictator did not concerned the church, because all was tollaerable if it were not communism. Remember that in those times we were in the middle of the Cold war. The initial JUSTICIALISMO was very close to the social doctrine of the Church explained by pope Leon XIII.

Also was a rumor that Peron, a widow, was living in sin with a teenager. The real enemy of Peron in those times were the landowners, the traditional aristocracy that dominated the country since 1880 and ended in 1946. The militaru were divided, someones were accepting Peron, someones were looking for a more consistent democracy.

but when he died being president the whole thing was put in oblivion and Peron had state funerals in the cathedral.

The burning of churches just after june 1955 perhaps was not an order of Peron, and probably was an uncontrolled reaction of his faithful fanatics.

In my opinion, bombing plaza de mayo was a huge barbarian move, disproportioned with the aim to kill Peron, a sniper will be enough.
