    I was really surprised too. In case there’s another attempt at liberating the islanders, the landing parties should be warned that the locals are armed to the teeth.

    I have owned at least one gun for the past 60 years; I now have three.
    I sure as hell will not let some wing-nut politician take them away.

    Politicians are driven by power and greed. Politicians hate guns because it deprives them of their "fixes". Those bastards are not to be trusted. I fear them more than an attack from any outside source.

    Civilian-owned guns are the great equalizer.

    The USA celebrated Independence Day yesterday, July 4th, with parades, fireworks, and barbecues. In a great show of independence, guns made deadly appearances in America the Beautiful, from sea to shining sea, leaving behind a trail of dead and wounded.

    Forbes Magazine, quoting the Gun Violence Archive, reports that there were 16 mass shootings across the Fourth of July weekend, bringing the total number in the first 6 months and 4 days of 2023 to 351 mass shootings in the USA.

    You’re right. When I replied to Richard Pedersen ’s comment that “civilian guns are the great equalizer,” I was drawing from fairly recent memory, and quoted 200+ mass shootings in the first half of 2023. I was shocked to see what an underestimate that was.

    Clearly the people standing in the way of meaningful gun safety regulations love their guns more than they love their children and grandchildren.

    Two separate massacres by the same gunman last night in the small Maine town of Lewiston bring the 2023 total of mass gun murders to 565. With two months left in the year, will the number rise to equal 2 mass murders per day over the year?

    They simply don’t need automatic rifles, and I can’t see why some can’t see that

    Making such a stupid loophole like something that temporarily prevents it from being an automatic weapon doesn’t make sense

    I don't think an age profile of those killed has been released yet but it seems highly likely a good number of them will have been children.
