Anyone have contacts down south in Rio Negro. My original search started in the Bariloche region, and my love of premium chocolate. A bottle or three of red and Belgium white would make any evening supreme.

Bariloche

No contacts here either. Bariloche is a packed tourist trap in season, but nearby Villa la Angostura is smaller, lovely, not as crowded.

I personally think the chocolate from that area is vastly overrated.

Hersheys? That f***ing garbage. I've had real chocolate, no need to be mean.

The coast of Normandy, little seaside village of Honfluer, a real chocolatier. We ate and drank. Fine Belgium chocolate and drank Merlot. My little village up here is a tourist trap. Trendy shops full of crap and throngs of vacuous fat twats, ugh!

I wouldn't stay in town anyway. I'm anti trendoid. The posh and bored set are not my cup'o tea mate. Like I mentioned our village got snogged by a world-class golf course. A cabin away from the masses is my goal. I'm not prejudice, I hate everyone equally.

Real estate anywhere in norteville is off the charts. I sold my holdings. No longer got the virve to work on property anymore. Did that bit.

The area is indeed beautiful and reminds me of my motherland. However, like its chocolate it is also overrated and overpriced.
I wouldn't permanently live there. Probably cheaper to move back to Scotland!

Ukman, how about where you're at now, Chivilcoy, obviously you like your hometown. Got to admit though Argentina inflation is like nothing I can relate to, I feel for the working class poor. Here too in norteville since 2020 rent has skyrocketed.. They're really wage slaves, or techno-peasants as my landlord refers to them.

Here where I am everything is booming. I dont see any 'poor' people.

I was sold Bariloche as the Alps of Argentina. Yes, the lakes are enormous and the trees are tall. However, I was more impressed with the scenery in the North-West of Argentina, to be honest.
Lakes and woods I had seen plenty in Europe, but canyons and salt plains like in the Noroeste region, never! Also, in the Lakes area, there is no ancient culture like in the Andes region in the north. It looks like a vacation town for people from Buenos Aires. Sad place, cheap tourism and the town has a odd layout. I was expecting a modern city with a charming little center from early settlers, very tidy and with typical food... this is what I was imagining when I heard "Switzerland", "Alps", "German heritage". Not a made up fake German, fake Alpine, fake chocolate town. I understand they had to complement the lakes with something that was more lucrative.
On Bariloche: "you will feel like in Switzerland". Yes, they try to sell you this tale and offer overpriced raclette with cheap cheese. Nobody makes cheese in Bariloche... About chocolate, I don't think it is particularly tasty nor refined nor cheap. Most places are now chains with shops in Buenos Aires (Rapanui, Mamushka, Abuela Goye, etc.), anyway.
In Europe, fine chocolate is very dark and has golden leaves, exotic ingredients, odd shapes, cayenne pepper, is infused with cognac, whisky or other expensive beverages. Here they make bunnies, cats and letters, and the chocolate is lighter than a Kinder Surprise. Meh!
Take into account that no cocoa beans are cultivated here, cocoa is very expensive "per se", and imported goods and ingredients are heavily taxed. I would change my selling proposition, if I were them.
+1 for the unimpressed list lead by @UK Man !

Indeed. Thanks for the reality check. My favorite one is chocolate covered cherry infused with cognac!

After much research and consideration, I acknowledge that where I live is one of the most beautiful pieces of the natural world. With that in mind, Oregon, though far from perfect, as if such a thing existed, is paradise. The rest of estado unidos, well why bother regurgitating that dystopian shit show. Thanks kindly expatriates, you've convinced me! I'm staying home.

That looks almost like Scotland. You are a lucky man!
Anyway, if any of you guys are in Florida next week, let me know. Just packing for a work trip.
On my own for a week and then the Big Boss arrives with the Heir to my worldwide fortune.

The US is finally moving into the 21st century and starting to pay (barely) decent money to people who work in restaurants. That (plus food inflation rates) has increased restaurant prices across the board.
