Hello. I'm a newly retired yank. I have been dwelling on relocating. I have spent some time in central america, my Spanish will need work. I am excited about Argentina, and have been for some time. This site is the first one I've found where I can engage expats and receive real time advice. So, here goes. How does one find a reputable real estate agent for renting a department? And I've heard the Palermo district is a good place to start? Any and all replies are sincerely welcome.

Hi, Gary Kipher , and welcome to the forum. I share your excitement about Argentina, and hope you can work out relocating. It’s a deeply flawed yet extremely wonderful place.
I do think Palermo is a really good place to start looking. I don’t have an immediate recommendation for a rental agent, but will see if I can reconnect with the very good people who helped us find our first place in BsAs.
When are you hoping to make the move?

Hello. I am obviously in the planning process. It will require my sacrifice of my book collection, light laughter, literally way to many books. The rest, can be replaced. I'm not a furniture addict, but we each have our passions, mine is books. I own a television, but never turn it on. I know, bit of offbeat. Though I do enjoy watching some sports. I love a good steak and a bottle of red. Use to love cigars, ah.... Spent slot of time in Gautemala, Panajachel on lake Atilan. When I was a younger me I also traveled through Mexico. Looking forward to new travels. Another one of my passions is art and natural history museums. I've seen some great museums.
As far as when? Not for at least A year. I'm now single, no children. So it's really on me. Getting back in adventure mode.
I love history, being a classically trained art historian. Just love good history stories, whether art, sports, world ect.

Our fellow forum member Carlos can certainly help you with both art and natural history museums.
I well know how awful it is to think of parting with beloved books. Perhaps you might think of weeding out all but your very favorites, and asking a friend to keep the most treasured ones in an attic or a garage for a few years, while you make sure you want to permanently relocate?

Yes. Indeed. I can part with them, my experience with storage is better to use a rental unit. Books are funny that way, my other avenue is give them to the library. They have book sales regularly.

Hi Gary. Must admit despite having lived here for 15 years just the thought of what you're planning on doing terrifies me.
As I married an Argentine she took charge of everything when we came back to live here permanently. Hence why I'm not much help to you I'm afraid. Good luck.

Dear Mr Kyper
I am Carlos Bozzoli. I will be glad to help you ifyou wish to have residence in Argentina, telling the pros and the cons.
For an American retired person, Argentina is the most convenient place to move. You can live well with medium class standards with 1000 dollars per months if you change them in the blue market.
For further notices, please send me a mail to cbozzoli@gmail.com.
I do this because when I was in the USA all the people treated me well and I was welcomed in all places.. Therefore I am trying to return the welcome to any American gentleman.

Although I had some help from Adri, I completed my residency application in Barcelona because I was living in Spain at the time and when I arrived here we used an agency to complete the red tape because they knew all the right people.
For us, it was joint effort, but obviously Adri knew her way around better than I did.

You completed your residency application for Spain in the early 2000’s, Splinter ? And you still have resident status there?
No, residency for Argentina through the Arg consulate in Barcelona before flying definitively to BA, because I was living in Spain at the time.

Good day. I don't why ukman is terrified for me moving to Argentina? What? Gotta give at least a reason. FYI ukman I've been in the jungles of central america, an without my mommie ffs. I also understand the cueva and the blue dolar. Ukman does your better have let you go outside by yourself (sarcasm)?
And to Carlos Bozzoli, thank you for that kind offer, I take note and put you in the rollo. I want to keep this experience positive, so I will keep my acerbic wit in check. My first visit will not require much other than a passport and a toothbrush. It's nice to connect, I know a it will be a slow process. I'm a methodical turtle, slow, deliberate cautious. I'm not fresh off the farm as the saying goes. So money changers in Honduras tried to rob me. Tried, that is. Like I mentioned, I vet everything that has to do with my mullah, hence, it's still mine. And no I don't want a time share(sarcasm again).

I was under the impression you were moving lock, stock and barrel to come here. If not, then you won't have a problem.

No Ukman, I know better, first is finding affordable housing. And to see how it 'feels', at one time me and the ex lived in Mexico for three months. Even filed an FM3 application for dual citizenship, but being next to estado unidos the drug cartel b.s. was to much. Like I mentioned earlier, not naive, been mugged before, had a 45' pointed at my chest. I'm not fearless, just wary, sadly I don't trust anyone, especially strangers at first. Man's gotta earn respect. I know there's a lot violence in this world, I read Splinters thread about Blanquier, that kind shit boils my sangre. When law abiding citizens don't feel safe walking a few blocks or a crosstown trip, we are in trouble. And the chicken shits always got the jump on you. I've been following the news in Rosario, it's drugs and greed all the way down.
One good friend is worth a roomfull of asshats. And thanks for tips so far, having some boots on the ground prior to arrival is important. Like I mentioned, cautious, slow, deliberate. Finding a reputable cueva for one, though I read WU gives a pretty good dolar blu exchange. And lest not get going on the IMF sob's.
I've enjoyed your threads. Got laugh out of the transgender thread. So here's my take on the topic, there is no such thing as 'chicks with dicks', just men with tits.

No Ukman, I know better,
Glad to hear it.
It really is a fantastic country. Such a shame it underperforms economically as the potential is there to be one of the best countries in the world.
As long as you have dollars you'll be alright. As for safety I personally have never been in a situation where I've ever felt threatened. Quite the opposite in fact. As a forigner I've been made to feel welcome by everyone. My Spanish is so awful the people here find me amusing....having a smile works wonders. 👍

Thanks, knowing that I'm not alone in the bad Spanish part. Lo siento pot mi malo espana, muy malo.
