Getting dollars from ATMs

  • I have always thought it was a myth, but apparently I was wrong!

According to this article on La Nación, there are a few ATM machines that dispense USD for those who have a USD balance.

As usual, it comes with many caveats. I have no idea of ATM limits in pesos, so I can't say how many USD bills one can get from an ATM.

  • serafina

Changed the title of the thread from “Getting dollars from ATM” to “Getting dollars from ATMs”.
  • Like you serafina , I thought this was an old wife's tale.

Mrs GlasgowJohn tells me of a place in Caballito where she did this - I asked when - she replied about 15 years ago.

In any case , I do not have a dollar balance in my account , so I will not have to bother to look for the special ATMs

That idiom in the same paragraph as "Mrs GlasgowJohn" doesn't work very well!  :th_giggle01:

I don't have an USD balance and it seems the usual tale that in theory you are free to do what you want because this is a democracy blah blah blah etc. but in practice they put so many rule that you can never fit the description, so why bother with compliance?

  • I was thinking the same thing. People probably all do as UK Man does, keeping dollars in the bank for as few hours/minutes as possible.

We apply the same rule also to pesos. We literally leave in just enough to pay the bills.

I don't trust safes in Argentina, since those are subject to private thieving (whereas if in USD accounts they are subject to public thieving).
