And he is hailed as a God by millions so there's no coincidence that CFK is holding a rally in La Plata on the same day.

I knew there was a connection, but let's face it, what has Peronism given the country except cronyism and corruption on an industrial scale?

The best of questions, Splinter . But do the voters really want to answer it?

They don't care as long as they get the handouts.

After WW2, the word “fascism” was a no-no, so the system was rechristened “Peronism” in Argentina. It’s not a consistent philosophy; it has many mutations. It’s all about businessmen and politicians using each other, through the State, to get rich. The lower classes are made dependent, and the middle class is impoverished.

    That sounds right.

50 years ago this Tuesday, is the anniversary of the 24th March coup d'état which removed Isabel Peron from power. She was arrested at Aeroparque - her helicopter was diverted there from the Casa Rosada on the false pretext of a fault with the aircraft because if she had been confronted at the pink palace, there would have been bloodshed - and flown south.

As we all know, Videla, Massera and Viola took power as the Junta and what followed was an initial relief, which eventually became infamous for its atrocities.

I was exiting Retiro station that night...

It's also almost 50 years since I met my now wife in June 76.

Actually, I met her on April 30th 1976 at a party in St. Andrew's School, Olivos, according to my diary of that year.
