On Saturday, Andres Blaquier, one of the richest men in Argentina and owner of the Ledesma Group was riding his 1200cc BMW motorcycle down the Panamericana motorway from Pilar to the capital when he was intercepted by murdering thugs riding a probably stolen Benelli bike. One was a girl of 18 years and the other, an 18 year old career criminal.

Blaquier tried to accelerate away but they shot him five times, downing his motorcycle. One of the murderers got onto the fallen bike, leaving the dying man on the ground and rode away a short distance before losing control of the powerful BMW and crashing it.

Both managed to escape on the Benelli but the girl was later captured by police.

The thug behind this despicable crime, Luciano Jesus Gonzalez, a known criminal is still on the run.

This type of crime is now becoming all too frequent and I have recently spoken to several motorcyclist victims held up at gunpoint on the motorway, with some managing to escape simply because their machines were much faster.

Unfortunately, even though Mr Blaquier's motorcycle was clearly very fast, they shot him anyway, five times and ended up with nothing but a dead man who didn't deserve to die in such barbaric fashion.

    I'm horrified.

The police have now caught the murdering scum bastard. I hope he has a fatal accident in police custody.

This is horrifying. Your thread title implies that this is not an isolated incident, but perhaps a growing problem? Is it known whether the murderers were targeting Blaquier specifically? Or were they just after an expensive bike and killed to get it? Or…?

    It's definitely not isolated.

Only last week I bumped into a man limping past a cafeteria who had been shot in the leg whilst riding his bike on the Panamericana just south of Zarate.

Another biker with an extremely powerful bike managed to outride two murder bikes that chased him, at times reaching 240Kmh. That's how he managed to escape.

One really wonders why these things can spin out of control and reach this level of violence on such a large scale.

My explanation is that the lack of punishment really incites to be criminals.

There are laws, there is enforcement, but then there is no justice in this country. Literally, criminals are simply let out with a slap on their hand.

Many of those arrested have been repeatedly been take to jail for a day and keep do the same crimes over and over. Yeah, as a politician you get popular if you let criminals out of jail, but at what price? To get honest people to leave the country?

For me, there is no political long term plan here and they are simply looking to get as many votes as possible NOW. Who is they? Well, obviously the party that gets voted by 95% of those who are in jail!!

I am also surprised that they let people in jail vote.

The murderer that the police just captured has 18 previous convictions yet he was free as a bird on the streets. Probably because he's only just 18.

He committed three crimes in the last two weeks in our immediate vicinity. One, a robbery at our local ice cream shop.

I don't think he targeted Balquier specifically; he just fancied the big bike which he couldn't ide and ended up crashing against a post.

Will people have to trade their bikes in, and start driving armored cars?

Is there any special time of day (or night) that the delinquents start their violent activities?

I don't think so, however Mr Blaquier was shot at around 1930 when it was getting dark.

An impressive turnout. Is there hope that this display of unity will have an effect on the growing crime problem?

Only time will tell and we have to keep up the pressure, so further protests are planned.

The motorcyclists consulted by Clarín speak of gangs that sell high-end motorbikes stolen in the conurbation abroad. The information comes from a report they have been working on, which they will publish in the next few days. "They are businessmen who offer the thieves 500 dollars. They buy the motorbikes from them and take them to Paraguay. There is a lot of logistics involved in this type of crime," they say.

Ah. An international operation would explain a lot. I’d guess that would be far beyond the ability of the police to even begin to control.

Impressive numbers. And if anyone wanted to bring home a little gift, there was the nearby Plaza Francia artisan fair !

The video led right into your 2021 “Saturday Shopping in La Lucila.” Brought back memories of your lovely town.

    Depressing reading!!

Having said that I can't say I'm surprised, given it's BA. I remember on my first visit to the big city over 20 years ago the missus issuing me warnings regarding our personal safety and thinking she was all a bit OTT with her advice....when entering the apartment late at night especially.

Must admit when I read some of the UK news on the BBC it doesn't seem any better safety wise!!
