Does anyone still still remember Liz Truss?

I’ve never heard “shut your cave.”

    Still laughing.

I thought I'd resurrect this since Keir Starmer is probably facing a leadership contest since he's lost the confidence of his party and also the country, apparently.

Wes Streeting has just resigned as health secretary and will probably trigger said leadership challenge. British politics is in a real mess and if Streeting becomes PM, he will be the seventh UK PM in twelve years:

    • David Cameron (2010–2016)
    • Theresa May (2016–2019)
    • Boris Johnson (2019–2022)
    • Liz Truss (2022)
    • Rishi Sunak (2022–2024)
    • Keir Starmer (2024–Present

Shockingly short terms for the most recent PM’s. Do they actually do such terrible jobs, or are they turfed out because of the shifting mood of the people?

Short terms make any continuity of policies hard to achieve. But the method of calling elections and choosing leaders safeguard the country from being imprisoned with an inappropriate, even dangerous leader for a full 4-year election cycle, as in the US and other countries.

Most of us were gobsmacked when Liz Truss was chosen as PM and we were proved right when she resigned after 45 days. To answer your question, I think the wrong people were chosen.

Will the next PM last longer than a head of lettuce?

(Conversely, will the US stop electing presidents and congressional leader before they are fully senile?)
