We lived in Gosport just across the water. How I miss that place.

Very sobering indeed. That was a generation not looking for sympathy or even help; they just put their heads down and got to work.

I used to love to listen to my grandmother about life living beside the River Clyde during the war. Due to the ship building it was a regular target for bombing. Strangely, my mother rarely if ever talked about it.

VE Day in Hereford, 1945. What a happy day that must have been and not just a few pints downed in the pubs.

Yes, a wonderful day of relief, euphoria, exuberance! That feeling that all wars were over, with no thoughts of "when will the next one be?"

My Dad worked in Riolls Royce as an aero-engine engineer during WW2. His occupation was deemed super important , so he missed out on active service during the war.

He ended up doing his national service in the Royal Navy in the late 40s

My old man was too young. Both my grandfathers died when I was young so I haven't a clue what their war service record was. Although I seem to recall Burma being mentioned more than anything.

She was undoubtedly involved in the enormous changes over the past few decades, that brought prosthetics into the very remarkable realm today.

    Bravo to your sister, GlasgowJohn!

It was a tough job for a time telling everyone your sister was a prosthetist.

The term is not widely known outside the hospital circuit....
