Interesting BBC article on how the inflation figures are gathered and worked out in the UK. I wonder how it compares to how they do it here?

Alcohol-free beer and pet grooming used to measure inflation
Houmous and motorhomes are also added to the basket of goods and services used to chart the rising cost of living.

How much alcohol free beer is actually sold here?

In most cases its actually more expensive than normal beer....

I was chatting with an Argentinian friend in Miami, and out of curiosity we were comparing prices to eat at a luxury Argentine restaurant in Buenos Aires (e.g. Don Julio) vs. Milan vs. Miami.

While browsing at menu pictures from clients, I couldn't help notice the price spike in one month.

Over the top! Don Julio was always our favorite restaurant, but until 1920, it was completely affordable.

Haha. Sorry; 2020. I posted while in the middle of reading the history of the US Forest Service, which trump has just dismantled.

There’s money to be made, of course.

There are several experiences I regret not making when the dollar was stronger, such as visiting Ushuaia, take a day spa or afternoon tea at a 5 star hotel, visit one of the world renowned parrillas. I think perhaps went to La Cabrera once, but I am not sure.

No huge surprise with March's inflation figure which was recorded at 3.4% , up from 2.9% on last month .

Inflation for the last 12 months actually fell very slightly to 32.6% as march 2025 was even worse than this year.

The government keep saying things will get better , but most of us dont believe them.

Here is the annual inflation , month by month since Milei took over .

    infografia

And here it is month by month over the last 12 months.

From my observations milk seems to have jumped up in price....maybe the cows demanded a wage rise? As usual I never ever buy beer or KitKats at their normal prices as they're a bloody rip off!!

If fuel prices keep going up then obviously inflation will too. So I can't see it going down anytime soon.

But we have to agree that they turned inflation around very dramatically and if Massa had won, I dread to think where we would be now. Inflation in Argentina is the tail that wags the dog and I can't see it being eliminated to more first world levels for years to come, even though Milei has stated more optimistic timescales.

He always said this would take years, not only inflation but the economy in general.

Splinter , yes. There is no doubt they stopped a major catastrophe.

What annoys me is that inflation is stuck at above 30% and is not moving.

And they insist ii will get better soon

The IMF has just revised its 2026 inflation forecast for Argentina to above 30% .

The government insists it will be much lower.

Can't see the yearly inflation figures getting into single figures anytime soon. Certainly not before the next election.

For the first time in ten months there has been a slight fall in monthly inflation.

According to INDEC , April inflation was recorded at 2.6% with the figure for the last 12 months reaching 32.4%. The figure for the first 4 months of 2026 was recorded at 12.3%.
