Guinness has announced a deal with la Rabieta to make the black stuff locally - should be interesting to see how this develops!

That's good news. You used to be able to get bottles of the dark stuff here years ago. Then it disappeared before I got to try it.

I’ll admit to not being able to force it down. When in Ireland, I drink Harp lager. But I’m really glad that Guinness will be making their brew in Argentina.

In Argentina is Scotch and Irish Whiskey subject to high tarriff's? In the US we do have tarriff's on whiskey hopefully they will be lowered. In the US at least last time I looked 18 year old Glenvelvet was $80 USD. What would the price be for something if that caliber in Argentina? Do Argentinians buy the good stuff in Paraguay because it's cheaper?

Guinness is good but in the US we have stouts at least as good from many microbreweries.Does Argentina have microbreweries?

Do you mean Glenlivet?

In which case you can get that for a bout US$30 here based on a peso price of $5850 and converting at a blue rate of say, $200.

And using the same conversion, my favourite, Captain Morgan Rum is about US$5. I don't know how it works but some booze is very cheap down here and if you have US$, it really does help.

Microbreweries have sprung up all over the place in Argentina and the selection of beers is now better than ever.

Glenlivet 18-year-old is around 15,000 - 16,000 pesos - the one above is its wee brother

But as Splinter said prices can vary tremendously .

Look at the prices on the Ligier website as they have quite a few malts on special this month

Look also at prices available on Mercado Libre

Canned Guinness is not the same as draught Guinness

Canned Guinness in the UK, Ireland, and USA has a widget in the can that simulates the gas in draught beer and is a fairly acceptable substitute.

Unfortunately, the canned Guinness made in Pilar is the old-fashioned can.

Still, they have been able to replicate the taste fairly well .

I enjoyed my couple of cans today - certainly better than the Argentine stouts which I find too sweet for my palate.

I will purchase again from time to time but the Argie will not push the craft IPAs out of their favoured place in the fridge

I have mailed a mate who works in Guinness to see if there are any plans to introduce widgets. . If they are able to do so, I am sure most drinkers would pay extra.
