Hard to believe this happened 50 years ago. We lived just down the road at the time. I was returning from college and saw my mother standing outside the front door. She shouted ''I was worried about you, something terrible has happened at the shopping centre''. I went straight up to see what was going on. To see such devastation was a shock as I assumed my mother was exaggerating.
How awful and to think that nobody was held responsible.
I think I remember that explosion, even though I lived on another continent. Horrible.

We stayed in Vardar Ave at the time. A five minute walk from the toll.
It's also 55 years since the Aberfan disaster when a coal slag heap collapsed, killing 116 children at the local school. I was very young, but I do remember the awful news.

Yip , that was very sad.
I’m not sure I actually remember that disaster, or if I’m remembering its portrayal in The Crown. Because of the schoolchildren, it was all that much more heartbreaking.
I was too young to hear about either one of them. One of them I weren't even born
