    From The Times today:

“A group of conspiracy theorists who believe that vaccines are a tool for mass depopulation said they met Sir Graham Brady, the head of the Conservative Party's 1922 Committee, in Westminster last week. The group's members, who maintain that ministers may be criminally liable for killing people, say they told the MP that vaccination should be stopped immediately.”

Meanwhile in the US, conspiracy adherents have taken to verbally and physically attacking nurses, claiming that covid does not exist, and that they are killing people in the ICU’s. JAMA reports social media smears on doctors and nurses, including a pervasive misinformation campaign that they are being paid to falsify “cause of death” as Covid-19.

I always thought it was the Illuminati and New World Order who were responsible for this. I was right.

People seem to be not only crazier but more violent. And in the US, the crazy ones are reliably armed to the teeth.

We've got through numerous kettles over the years with many of them developing leaks. All are made in China and in 2024 we bought a Russell Hobbs 1.8L one in the UK for around £45 thinking it was top quality. But now it's showing faults such as the handle coming away and the seal breaking. Frankly, it's not worth paying much for a kettle nowadays.

I still have this one which is around 30 years old, made in the UK and it works just fine.

We've had this Philips for quite a while now and it still works fine. We did have trouble with the build up of limescale meaning every couple of weeks it would cut off prematurely. I got so pissed off with having to descale it I resorted to taking drastic action. Got a piece of fine grade glasspaper and scrubbed the limescale off the inside part where the handle is positioned above the switch. That was months ago and there hasn't been a problem since.

I remember how proud you were with your UK purchase last year! I am sorry to hear it is already showing up the signs of a poorly manufactured appliance. Our Bosch is going strong after 13 years. It doesn’t allow to control temperature, and the only issue is limescale at the bottom and around the upper lid.
Since Rice taught me to use vinegar, it has been a breeze to clean it up. I have also bought a plastic scraping sponge for non sticking pans (it is a plastic sponge) that doesn’t harm the plastic.
I buy 100% pure vinegar (only for cleaning) on ML from a store here in Palermo. It is much more strong than the food quality one, albeit more expensive.
That said, I also use it as fabric softener (instead of industrial one) and to clean mirrors and windows.

I am also using Arms & Hammers sodium bicarbonate as a washing cycle add on instead of those sold in stores.
There is a bit of chemistry to learn to find out what works on a certain type of stain, but the results are incredible if you have the right substance and time.
Thank you, Rice ! The forum’s official chem!

You will certainly be hoping the place won't close down half way through the month

This has happened to most of us more than once.

had never seen a subscription model for coffee. $2500/coffee is about 1.77 USD / 1.53 EUR.

20 coffee a month means to go there from Mon to Fri once a day. May be a good option for someone willing to work at a cafè and not pay for coworking space.

I always liked the cafe as a break from work. So if I lived or had an office a short walk from this promotion, I would go once or twice per day for a 15-20 minute coffee. a cup without milk or sugar for a wakeup morning, and then later a quick afternoon espresso.

That is what we use. I do not like things taking up space on the kitchen counter, especially one with an electric cord. Still, I understand for a short term rental property it is required as a modern necessity .

Since we switched to the delivery of 20L bidones of water we do not have limescale in the tea kettle, mate thermos, or the stovetop coffee maker. It is also convenient to have the water dispenser at the right temperature for a quick drink and hot drink prep. We do not use it for much else.

Doesn't seem to matter what bottled water we use we still get limescale. Tap water is a definite no no due to the high level of arsenic in it.

Wow. That is difficult to have elevated levels of Arsenic provided by the municipality. You would think they could do something.

I can understand if spring water causes linescale still. Though industrial filtered and reverse osmosis will take out all the minerals, so surprising if that does not work.

I’ve always been told that the water in Buenos Aires is some of the purest in the world. Are there multiple purification systems serving the city?

I'm surprised to hear that. Glasgow water is the best.

I won't drink tap water here which is why we use a PSA filter.

We used bottled water in San Isidro, but it was a pain to carry the bottles. We didn't even have a car at the time, so it was all our elbow grease's work. Even if the Disco was just 3 blocks away, with 2-3 packs of 2lt water, those were very long blocks.

We bought bottled water because the taste was horrible, although the City's website assured it was safe to drink.

Now that we are in Palermo, we have installed a water filter. The kettle is filled only with the filtered water, and gets limescale from that, regardless.

It is interesting that you are not fond of electric kettles, aficionado . I think they are so versatile. I mostly use it to heat up water for the mate, the occasional soluble Nescafé, or as a help to boil water quickly when cooking.

If it broke down, I would buy it again. I wouldn't use the old type of kettle as I tend to forget I have put something on the stove and I need to set an alarm on my smartband. This is how I burnt my Italian coffee maker. 🙃

Typical home filtering is not enough to remove those minerals. Reverse osmosis, which is what most of the 20L delivery companies will do, is what is required. Carbon filtering is good since it still gives your body essential minerals, but bad for the kettle.

I like to use them at other people's homes. Just not mine. I want clean empty counter. Plus I do not think they save enough time compared to the traditional kettle
