Eager to hear how this turns out!
I'm also interested to see how it turns out. Every flippin' recipe I've read is different which doesn't help. The reason I'm adding whisky is beacuse the missus still has several jars of plain ones hanging about in the fridge. That's why she didn't make any this year. So I suggested adding the whisky just to give mine a different flavour.

Remember to add MINE to the label

I might label them “paint thinner.”

Had one hell of a storm yesterday evening and lost power for over four hours. So the whisky fig preserve making had to be resumed this morning. Turned out easier than I thought but the expert is still in bed catching up on her sleep. They look okay so she can have the honour of tasting them first once they cool. If she spits it out I think I'll pass.

Well the missus tasted them and said they were excellent and as good as those her granny used to make. She especially liked the colour and viscosity of the syrup. Her only negative was when she said ''you were a bit stingy with the whisky''.

Sound easily remedied.

Indeed. Best of it is before I started making them she told me to go easy on the whisky.
Might make more today as there are still plenty left on the tree. So I'll be upping the quantity of Uisge Beatha for sure. Can't wait to get started.

Out of curiosity, how many cans do you drink per day? And do you drink more in summer?
In winter, I can barely get through 2, but in summer and I can (and will) have 3
Beer quickly fills me up, so no more than one before switching to wine
-
Same as aficionado . one is fine then I change to wine.
Occasionally on hot summer days with friends in the garden , I will do two or three.

I used to prefer wine over beer however it slipped down too easily. As I now have to take meds I've got to watch what I drink. So will only drink a glass of wine if there's no other option. Spirits have become a no no unless it's in a pudding or the wife's not watching.

About ten years ago , I had a fairly serious medical problem and was medicated up to my eyeballs. Alcohol was totally banned.
I asked the doctor after six months how long many years will live longer if I stay off the booze?
His reply, ' I really don't know'

The doctor here told me no alcohol at all....at least that's what the missus told me. When I asked the highly regarded doctor in the Fleni if I could still have a can of beer while on the meds he said yes, in limited daily quantities only. He recommended staying off spirits though. Which was fine by me.

It might be enlightening to ask the doctor why alcohol is contraindicated with a specific medicine. Sometimes alcohol inhibits the medicine, but sometimes it potentiates it. Neither is good. Sometimes it doesn’t change the efficacy of the medicine, but the combination could cause balance problems, drowsiness, etc. also not good.
But sometimes patients are told not to drink alcohol simply because the drug companies have not done studies that definitively show risks, so it’s safer to simply say “avoid alcohol while taking.”

In the UK many years ago, you were considered a freak if you weren't drinking at a party and many people would the excuse, "Oh, I'm on antibiotics."

The docs I have confidence with tell me that most medicines are eliminated via the kidneys.
Al cohol leaves the same way.
If your kidneys are weak , you could have problems.

In summer, wine makes me sweat (also, I am not exactly the portrait of the warning 'drink in moderation'), so I prefer beer. Also, beer is served cold, wine... it depends and never as cold as a beer. I'll save wine for winter.

I first read that as swear.

I usually do not drink until after dark. Only If I am being social out and about, or at at home gathering around the grill, will I drink on a summer day. Those are the times I enjoy a nice cold beer.
