I’ve never seen snow that deep on a road! I wonder what kind of equipment was used to so cleanly cut through that wall of snow?

It was raw out in the countryside today. To be -2c tonight they say. Our banana plants are a sorry sight.

I hope the trees make it through the freeze. We’ve had some that looked dead as a door nail. Then the next Spring, they grew right back.

Most plants that we have, have survived frosts over the years. As long as a frost doesn't penetrate the ground and affect the roots plants can survive. I suspect even though the leaf growth of the bananas might be dead they'll just grow more top growth soon as it warms up again. We have a large poinsetitia in the town garden which does exactly that every year.

It was pretty chilly on the bike at 0830 this morning. Gets through the gloves even with an extra pair inside and always gets the tips of my fingers.

I don’t suppose your Biking gloves have room inside for those little handwarming rectangles heated in a microwave?
Or - I have some glove inserts for skiing that are thin inner gloves with a metallic fiber (they look like Michael Jackson’s famous glove) that are pretty effective on the slopes in really cold temps. Maybe check on Amazon? -

It was a wee bit nippy but nothing like Scotland in winter....or spring, summer and autumn as well come to think of it. I remember once walking through snowdrifts in -8c temperatures just to get to school in Glasgow. Had shorts on as well.
Made a man of me!!

I believe the part about walking to school in the snow. But I’m having trouble wondering why in shorts, UK Man ??
The school uniform rules didn't allow boys of my age to wear long trousers. Back in those days the teachers were also allowed to 'punish' you by giving you the strap even when you were innocent. Hard to believe I know considering it wasn't that long ago in the 60's.
I quite often mention this to the boss ( walking to school in the snow ) but she doesn't believe me...
The boss won't believe me either....I do tend to exaggerate a bit though.

Another clear -1c morning however the weather outlook for the next 10 days is a cracker. Sun,sun and more sun with temperatures slowly rising into the 20's from this weekend.

We could do with some of this right now.
You sound like my wife....she panics thinking her precious plants are going to kick the bucket if there hasn't been any rain for a week or two.
Despite me being a horticultural accessor in a past life she refuses to believe me when I tell her they'll be fine. So the watering can was out today.
