Colossal SNAFU. Can you imaging the terror? There they are, hanging in the middle of the Pacific, with the world's two pre-eminent madmen threatening each other with their nuclear weapons over your home. So when the "take shelter" alarm is issued, of course they wouldn't think it was a mistake. Literally nowhere to run, nowhere to hide.
On the positive side, in today's climate of non-apologies ("I'm sorry IF YOU took my words that way," or "We apologize for ANY inconvenience"), Hawaii's Emergency Administrator, Vern Miyagi, issued a real apology: he said this was his fault and that he took full responsibility. When did you last hear THAT?
