I've been looking at a way to regularly keep in touch with a group of UK pipe smokers and boozers. As we're a bunch of troublemakers regularly going off topic using foul language the US based pipe smoking forum will no longer tolerate us. We don't need anything fancy, something simple and cheap will do so that rules out the $250 a year it's costing you for this forum.
Serious question Splinter..why did you start a forum when you knew you'd be out of pocket?

The answer is that I got sick and tired of being treated like an imbecile at BA Expats and felt that others had the same impression, especially when we were banned indefinitely. It's not a question of being out of pocket because I was more than happy to set up an alternative meeting place since I enjoy the creation process.
Besides, many of the members here contribute to the costs, which helps enormously.

I wouldn't expect them to pay anything. Hence why I would do it on the cheap or not at all.

No not me although a couple of the others have been warned.Our banter isn't understood by the US based contingent.

Probably the closest you can get to a free forum is a subReddit.
Facebook group maybe.

Problem with a WhatsApp group is it is harder to organize seperate conversations and subjects. You basically have a chat system, so recalling previous conversations (like in a thread on a forum or facebook groups, or a sticky on a subReddit) is not as easy. If you just want somewhere to chat, WhatsApp works, but if you specifically want a forum-like place then it doesn't work at all.

I agree. A Whatsapp group only really serves for instant messaging and if you wan to find a particular subject it involves a lot of scrolling and searching.
Added to which there are too many group members who insist on leaving overly long voice messages, blah, blah, blahing till the cows come home.
