The endless stupid pursuit of putting a "Y" where the "I" should be

I keep seeing people constantly misspelling words like

Happyness, because of that film titled in the pursuit of happyness

Payed (this is spelled correctly but is a nautical meaning for what they are trying to say)

Algorythm (started by a British scientist)

There are others, but I've forgotten.

That's a truncated meaning, not a misspelling

And I've seen a new one....

The link doesn't work, but tell me what are you trying to get at? Did he use the "Y"s instead of the "I"s in his diaries? If so, its a bit of a while that it was used, it's considered to be old English and not modern English spelling

That's all meaningless to me, as far as I know, we spell happiness just like that, and not with the "Y", like Happyness, not even google dictionary on their browser recognises as English
