As cities around the world are seeing a significant increase in bicycle use, I wonder if You are seeing a significant increase in your neighborhoods - in the city or towns?

Speaking as a ex touring cyclist In the 12 years I've lived here and despite the introduction of cycle lanes in our town the number of cyclists I see daily has noticeably decreased over the years. On the other hand the number of motorbikes I see on the roads has risen dramatically as has car ownership.

This is all very well but if only cyclists could respect others and learn the rules of the road.

Red lights? Ha ha, forget it because they don't give a damn and if you hit one, you get blamed even if the cyclist is in the wrong.

It’s parked cars, not bike lanes, that block our streets. Cycling is not the problem — it’s the solution

We've got some cycle lanes here however they're often blocked by vans dropping stuff off at shops or by folks who have the entrance to their garages. The biggest problem here are those cyclists and moped riders who use the pavements. I nearly got hit by a moped yesterday when I came out a shop just as the guy passed. He just looked at me as if I was in the wrong!!

Several times I have been almost hit by motorcycle who swerve into the bike/pedestrian lane so they can avoid the speed bump in the road.

Haha! Do you mean bicyclists are now lane filtering, Splinter ? And shooting out ahead of cars before the traffic light turns green? 🤪

We were on the Ruta 5 motorway today between Mercedes and BA and there was a cyclist riding on the hard shoulder. A police patrol didn't give a hoot.

That would be quite a surprise to see police in Argentina do anything outside of a checkpoint stop they have previous setup.

According to my missus it's not their job. It's up to Transito or Guardia Urbana to do it.

What do you expect when those in positions of power don't even set an example? In fact, Macri admitted that he once rode to the courts on a motorcycle without a helmet.

And what about this traffic inspector in Moron, caught riding with no helmet and swigging from a can of beer!

Is Moron the name of the town, or a description of its traffic inspector?

I haven't cycled for some years and foolishly sold my mountain bike a while back. So, not being as fit as I would like, I've been thinking about an e-bike which gives both options of cycling and some electric assistance, since I'm not as young as I used to be. A gentle break-in if you like.

I'm looking at these two models.

Notice more and more e-bikes/scooters going about in the centre of BA every time I'm there. To me it looks a good way of ending your life early but I've no idea what the accident figures are like. The missus asked me if I wanted one but it's so flat here I don't see the point to be honest. So I'll stick to my Claud Butler touring bike which I've pedalled thousands of miles over in many countries without incident.

How much do they cost anyway?

They cost about 4x as much (over $2,000,000) as a conventional bike and after researching this extensively, not to mention the probability of being lazy and using the electric motor, I decided to go for a mountain bike with no assistance.

The money I saved goes towards a helmet and other accessories and I'm riding it home either tomorrow or Friday.

    Well chuffed!

    Sensible decision.

I may change the seat which is far from comfortable, but for the time being I'll use gel padded cycling shorts. I also added lights, mudguards, a bell, a tool bag and a mirror because it felt weird riding without a mirror.
