They are demanding a wage increase between 56% and 64%, bearing in mind that a police officer's basic is around $40,000 which is about US$400 per month.

I support their claims, as a 30% increase from 2016-19 has been delayed and in many cases (especially now) they don't have the equipment to operate safely

This means that there are very few patrols on the streets and added to this, the president has promised more officers and equipment to deal with the rise in crime, but no pay increases.

This article from the BA Times doesn't even touch on the important details like facts and figures.

This from InfoBAE is much more accurate

Jeez, if Alberto keeps going like this he's going to need a helicopter. Interesting thing is he keeps acting as if it's all business as usual. Of course, all the protesters are wrong, despite there no being a wider amount of groups protesting him. Another thing I find amazing is they are still using Macri to blame under all cirumstances. I am not a huge fan of Macri, but when he was in power he was lambasted every time he would try to blame previous government. Just another example of the rampant hypocrisy of the K's.

    From the BA Times:

    Quote

President Fernández’s new plan foresees, along with other measures, the deployment of 3,957 troops to trouble spots, the training of 10,000 new police officers over the next 18 months and the supply of 2,200 new police vehicles.

    Troops? Seriously?

Is this crossover use of military becoming another unwelcome International trend?

I'm not sure if the BA Times is correct here because I've seen no mention of troops in the dailies.

It's a touchy issue for obvious reasons.

Apparently the big problem is not just the salaries which are pretty awful by anyone's standards but the "Complements" normally paid by local businesses for "additional security work" are not being paid due to the Covid crisis, A closed business has no need for additional security and also has no cash to pay for it.

    Could only happen in Argentina,,,

You’re right, GlasgowJohn . Only in Argentina. I never thought about that salary augmentation, now gone for over 6 months.

AR$40 per hour apparently, which is dismal.
